27 degrees here also but will let fire go out because when sun hits the windows it gets plenty of solar heat here...
thewoodlands , well, true to form, the dogs woke me at 6:55. Coffee was shortly after. On my 2nd cup right now. 25 at that time, and the house had dropped to 67 again. Raked a nice coal bed forward and added a medium split of Maple e/w, then a few minutes later, changed it to n/s and added a couple more. I'm creating more coals, but I wanted to warm the house up a little. I should be able to let it cruise for a while after it's down to coals again. Only supposed to hit 32 today. Still only burned about 1/2 cord, but it's goin' away a little quicker now.
The snow forecast has dropped to 2-4", but unless that storm takes a turn northward, we'll be high and dry. HDR and points south should get a few " though. That's a goodly sized patch of snow.
32 here with a stiff Northern wind..... Locked and loaded the stove full at 5 a.m. of Honey Locust and Mulberry... 82 when I left... Should be some hot coals when I get home around 5 ish....
20 this morning, feels like 10. Supposed to get a bit of snow today through tomorrow, but I don't think we'll get much. Only burning the OWB at this point.
About 1" snow on the ground ,snowing steady , but most of the snow is supposed to come late afternoon and evening. 34 outside, ash in a little Hickory in the Box 75 inside
I woke to a cold rain this morning but it must have cooled off a little because now it is huge snowflakes, like an inch across. The ground is still warm enough that nothing is sticking yet.
29 here and snowing, 71 in the house. Burning a load of chunks and knots (silver maple, black cherry, mulberry) and two gren bricks for good measure. Loving this colder weather (and the snow too).
Thanks for sharing your experience with these types of stove... Mine is an '81 wondercoal- same thing, but with a spin draft on the feed door. After a good bed of coals, relights went quick, managed to cut the smoke outpu by better than half! I've had this stove for 2 years.... Can't seem to get ahead enough to step up to one of them big boy stoves like a bunch of ya's have, but we tryin! In mean time, I'll use what I got! Put the house up to 82* last nite, fire probably went out at 4 am, still mid 70's now....
I used to love those guys as a kid! SCTV was where many Canadian comedians got their start. Not a high production show but I remember it as being funny. Good tip on the conversion thanks!
Well, it started snowing about an hour ago. Still coming down at about the same rate, and it's sticking a little. My wife just asked if had a fire going. It is now. 2 Oak, with a Maple, and an Ash split. Feels a bit cooler than it really is, but since I'm a FHC member, the house should be warmer soon.
Us also, we have a ten foot picture window in the living room that the sun, at this low winter angle, heats up nicely when it finally rises and clears the trees. Around 10 AM.
8 inches of snow on the ground, 33 out right now, burning some pine now, will load up some ash and Hickory for the overnight low of 25
Yep, mine was a " WonderCoal"as well I misspoke in my prior post. I agree use what you have my friend, just wanted to share my experiance with mine and ones I know that friends have owned. Nothing you are doing wrong, just a hard stove to get the most out of sometimes....
We have an outside temp of 40, food for the Liberty tonight is, Cherry, Blue Beech/Muscle Wood with some smaller rounds of Sugar Maple.
