Enough of our snow has melted that it makes the woods look like a piebald deer........(rifle season opens tomorrow BTW) :D

Our rifle season opens next Saturday and runs through the first week of Jan. We've got an overpopulation problem (so they say), so in Tennessee we can take 3 doe per day, no season limit, and 2 bucks per season (1 per day).

I've got the .308 sighted in, food plot is looking good, and plenty of snacks, bourbon, and firewood at the ready. Hoping to fill the freezer again after we went through the 2 deer I got last year pretty quick.

First fire of the season for us just the other night!! Boy did it feel good taking the chill out of the house.

Small fire, a mix of pine and sassafras........Overnight in the low - mid 30's, house quickly warmed up to 73 - 74ish

Extremely mild temps here right now but they will be dropping all day. If there is going to be a fire, it won't be until quite some time later on.

27 and frosty here this morning. 68 inside and had a good coal bed. Couple small sticks to kick the flame up and one stick of maple to take the edge off. What ever is next on the wood pile goes in the woodstove in an hour or so then close her down low and slow until after dinner.

Supposed be 36 and sunny at 9am for our weekly golf game, but not sure about that with the temps. (walk 9 holes)

39⁰/65⁰ inside, got a small fire with oak limb wood and a holly split going to take the chill off.
We have a bunch of 2 1/2 × 4 skid timbers we cut 11.5" long, set them on the ashes, with twisted up paper between them, and wood on top, fire starts so good. 20251115_071314.jpg

Let the fire go out yesterday so woke to a 63 degree house. 38 outside. Started the morning fire with mulberry noodles and scraps from my basement throw in area. Been shoveling in dust pans of that to get every last btu the wood has to offer. Making progress.
