When I got up my thermometer on the back porch said 21. The Westher Channel app on my phone said 29. Ash going in the boiler.
Fought the wind most of the night finally gave up and had to turn furnace on. 43 mile gust. Outside temps 32 with wind chill 17. Second time this year turning the furnace on
It was crazy windy here last night with the wind just howling. Opened the patio door once during the night and heard sone wood cracking. Didn't see anything new down this morning. Supposed to be getting colder tomorrow.
58 and rain with gusts up to 34 mph. Burning the propane furnace tonight just to keep my backup system operational (plan is to burn it some every two weeks throughout winter).
Lows upper teens and low 20s highs hovering around freezing for the weekend. Going to be digging into the oak FINALLY. I Like having not to reload the stove so often! The box elder makes a lot of ashes too.
This is first round of not having to use fire starters this year... 36 this morning...oak, walnut, honey locust have carried the weight these last few fires. But brought some Hedge in for tonight, since we are in for some 20's they say....
Awoke to 29 outside and 70 inside after loading the stove about 3/4 full with all Maple last night. Lots of coals left. Opened the air, then raked those forward after a couple hours and laid a small Maple split on top. Temp is up to 32 now, and house is still 70. High is only supposed to be 36, so we'll have fire and/or coals keeping the house warm all day.
woke up to 32 this morning, house was at 64 and insert had a few hot coals left in from overnight. off work today so got the fire going and burning some 3 year seasoned elm, house it at 66 and climbing
Been outside for a while, and the house temp dropped to about 67 by the time I came in. Time for FIAH! Loaded 4 twisted "splits" of Maple and a smaller normal Maple split. Should be gooder for a while.
Loaded the stove around 2 am (up with dogs), about 7am and again at 1pm. All using 4 splits of silver maple. Easily keeping the house between 72 to 66. Upper 20s outside most of the time. I really think all the hard work I've done over past few years to insulate and stop drafts is paying off. Brings a grin to Schlot's face.
Put in three quarters of a load of ash last night, low was 35, 16 hours later I loaded up some pine and chunky monkeys, 45 today
