Temps were about 20 degrees colder last night. Burned the first load in about a month. Doubt we will see another week in the 70's like we just did. Of course I wasn't expecting the one we just had.
Woke up to 30°F and loaded the stove with poplar and oak. Was nice to start it with leftover coals from the hard maple hickory mix I loaded last night.
Put a mix of Pine, and Maple in last night before bed. Got up this morning to a nice bed of coals, but the house felt a little cool. I put in 3 small Pine splits, and a couple 2" Maple branches.........feels like a freakin' sauna in here now. It was 30 when I got up, and supposed to hit 53 today with all sun. I'll have to try Norky's small kindling fire. Certainly don't need this much heat. Is typing considered aerobic exercise? I'm sweating.
Only getting a fire going in the mornings. Poplar is good this time of year. No fires in the evening yet cause the wife likes it cool in the house while sleeping.
This is a difficult night for a fire. Temp says 53 degrees...no fire and its too cold, build a fire and its too hot
Put about 3 Maple splits, a few small Maple branches, and a biggish round of.......something in on coals about an hour ago (10:30), and now the stove's running 450 on zero primary air with some secondaries. Might just leave it like that and go to bed. House is somewhere around 72, 30 outside.
45 degrees here, rainy but supposed to get up to 54 degrees. I still have coals in stove, but no fire. Not going to build one up before work, see what tonight brings.
28 outside. First snow of the year. When light will post a pic. Lodge pole ugliest and shorties. Warming the house. Headed to work..
Ended up opening the air a bit before bed last night. Plenty of coals in the stove this morning. Outside is 29, 69 in here, and the stove is about 250. 2 Pine, and one Maple split, and we're off to the races again. Took about 5 minutes to get back up to 400, and start the secondaries. Dry wood just works.
30 here, lit her off with some pine, and dry punky oak, feeding a few oak and hickory splits, nice and warm inside now. Still awaiting the first snow, should be soon. We have had flurries though.
Low 30's last night here in western NY. Silver maple and a bit o ash. Couple pieces of punky black walnut that have been managing to keep from getting fried for at least 5 years. This is the time off year I like to burn up all my fire pit wood(chunks and uglies) seeing as outside fires are pretty much done.
