I got a mule deer a few years ago in MT, it was excellent. Regrading antelope, I too had always heard it was terrible meat, however it is one of my favorite. My girlfriends favorite wild game meat.

We woke up to about 4” of fresh snow on the ground this morning. Beautiful bright sunny day. Time to get outside and plow the driveway. Oak and cherry chugging away in the stove.

Plowing is finished. I had to use the really narrow plow though, stand up while operating, and manually push the snow out of the way into piles. I forgot how my old Cub Cadet won’t start if it’s below 25F. Have to look into getting an ignition upgrade on that old points system, as the starting fluid didn’t seem to make a difference.

Cold and sunny. A little wind but not bad. Woke up at -2 but all the way up to 8 now.

Boiler coaled up pretty deep last night. Threw some more ash on it this morning and will top it off before bed.

Still -16 and now the wind is picking up. Just loaded a half load of Oak into the stove at a medium low setting. After the majority of the off gassing settles down I’ll move the air to half to help burn down the coals for the next load mid afternoon.

I broke out the hickory stash for last night.

Got down to 9F which is about as cold as we ever get. Had nice coals this morning and reloaded with some poplar and red oak.

And from car accidents Eckie from no experience driving on snow and or ice. I caught a ride once from a fish store I worked at in the late 80's, my carburator choke was frozen open and they offered to take me to town. They just moved from TX and that trip up a narrow highway following a city bus took several years off my life. Holy cow, 4' off the busse's bumper with windsheild wipers on high from following too close instead of backing off for over 10 miles
