Load of ash in the Fireview. Weather is calling for up to a foot of snow in between 7pm tonight and 6am tomorrow. I’ll fire the tractor up at 430am and clear the drive. Hoping the plow truck clears the road by sunrise. IMG_3523.jpeg

5 year seasoned, lots of splits sticking together in the stack.

-3/71 Just added a few small splits of sugar maple which will burn wide open for an hour or so to burn down some coals. It will be nice to around home and the fire all day.

You may want to keep a close eye on the boiler's venting.

Those smidges can easily turn into smudges. Than there is a mess!

Skies cleared last evening and temps dropped to below zero a bit. Then. before the winds died down, the clouds were blown in so we had a good cloud cover and the temps rose.

3/64 with snow taking forever to hit the ground

22 and feels like 10, so they say. BL warming the house up. Turned the Lopi's fan on and thermostat across the room roon went above 80 in 10-15 minutes. I'd like to have a fan that cycles off and on. When I was outside I could smell the BL burning. It just smells hot.

They were saying 2-6" snow by this morning, then dropped it to 1-4". So far no snow and nothing in the forecast so just cold (12 degrees) without much warming for the next few days. 7-year-old locust on board as needed for the stove.

5 degrees at 9:30 am. Freezing drizzle, fog, sleet, light snow all day yesterday. Just an all around disagreeable wintery mix. Sometime in the overnight it turned to light snow and now I have to go move 4” of fluffy dry snow at a couple locations when it stop all together.
Mostly elm with a bit of locust and ash and hackberry piled by the stove.

I wish we were in line for some of this winter storm but all we're getting is cold air.

    Yes.

The conditions our spruce grows in causes the growth rings to be tiny, in the order of 7-10 rings per 1/4” the density isn’t what you see in the lumber at a box store. We loaded the outdoor wood boiler last night at 10pm and at 6am it was 1/2 full. It was -29 than and -17 now. I don’t get white birch often. If that was white birch we would get twice the burn time.

Yeah, I never thought about the intense cold and short growing season would make it really dense. I was thinking about the blue spruce yard trees that I get.

I will try to remember to get a photo of the growth rings. How long does a 10” round x 16” long last in the stove. On bottom of the boiler 5-7 hours when it’s -20, if on the top it’s moved down to burn and a boiler load at -20 there will be 1/3 load left in 12 hour checkup. 16” pieces we put in 2 rows deep 4 pieces wide 3-4 tall.

Funny that you say that, day after Christmas the automatic air bleeder started leaking "a smidge". Supply House .com to the rescue.

72 inside. Shop is set at 45 and I don’t think it has kicked on yet.
