39 out. I was under the weather at 3am so it was a good time to give the furnace its annual test run. Burning some Elm and 77 in now.
52F and misty outside. Short leaf pine to get things going, then a mix of black cherry and red oak. Quite a nice combo.
Very similar to black cherry in my experience but seems to burn quicker then BC. A shoulder season/ 35* type of wood for sure. The issue I had is the drying time. The stuff that Im burning is from a tree that was a blow down in 2019. (Actually fell on our house). This year I felt it was ready to burn. Most is 16% MC now. I tried a few splits last year. It was so-so when I burned it. It also stinks when splitting green. I wont pass it up if I had the time and space for it to dry.
Its 4c/39f in the Rockies this morning, nice and mild. The house is still 24c/75f with lots of coals from last night so Ill let the stove coast for a bit before reloading. I was able to get the last of my splitting done for the year yesterday and put the splitter away. My wife helped which is always a big help! We stacked the larch for the 2025/2026 season and raked the bark off the lawn. Have a great day!
Never left the mid 40's last night. Tomorrow will be different. Might get out of the 30's for a high and may even end up with some S-word.
