20 now, but was colder earlier in the morning. The Wood Gun ate through some firewood last night! A mix of hard Maple, Cherry, and Ash now.
21/65. Forgot to load the stove last night. Fell asleep. Son asked should I throw some wood on. I said no. I’m getting up to load it but thanks. Next thing in know it’s 4am.
Sorry to hear that you're running low on firewood. Maybe next year, you can get a little bit farther ahead on your supply. What we refer to as a "three year plan" is normally the accepted goal of those who choose to burn; meaning that you should have a minimum of three years CSS firewood before it is used for burning. I think there just may be a wood burning advice article in the resources section of FHC somewhere.....that could be helpful! Keep smiling.
I saw 22° overnight idk if it got colder but it was super windy yesterday afternoon and overnight it got even windier. 27° out now 74° in Ash in the quad.
I can see it already....... How long does it take to season? Will wood dry if left in log form for 2-3 years? Should I split all pieces right away? Horizontal or vertical? Stack or throw in a pile? Top cover or not? And on and on and on. We'll be here for you.
27 here this evening. I loaded the Wood Gun with what looked like some Beech, but not sure. Then some Elm and Hard Maple. Should last plenty at this temperature. But going down to 5 by 7am. We had been forecast to get a dusting to 1-2” of snow. We received about 7-8”. Fortunately for us it was the lightest stuff you could ask for. I thought I heard the Suburban laughing while plowing. I figured I had better turn the radio up.
