Temp outside up to 30º. getting slushy and snow stopped, rain snow mix now very lightly, just enough to make a mess. 75º inside, just put on a nice Cherry split, last of my Cherry from 2019
-9/63. We're colder by a long shot than the forecast. Weather guessers got it wrong again. Red oak doing its thing. Loading up the Lopi Mike in Okla
-7(-18wind chill)/63 Hedge and locust. Should be the last morning of this, for my area. Supposed to warm up to the upper teens and twenties, the next couple days.
-12F right now at 8:00am supposed to get to around 16 above zero today. If it does, that will be the first time above zero for 6 days straight I think
-1/72. White oak. We just got back from an indoor softball tournament in Peoria, IL for my 12 year old daughter where it was -15 yesterday morning. As soon as we got home last night I got the Buck Stove insert fired up.
2 degrees but no wind today. Still burning oak and hickory RR tie cants...and probably will be for the rest of the winter. Even on these extra cold day's I'm only burning about 2.5 of them a day.
Just out of curiosity what wood do they use for those? And I'm assuming the ones you're burning aren't treated?
It was-9° this am, with a -29 real feel. , 68 in the house, had a full load of red oak in it. I rechooched with all red oak again. What's funny about the wind chill, is that the warning levels from the NWS are higher the further north you go. So, the NWS doesn't issue a temp warning at say -29 WC for us in Wisconsin, but they do for Illinois. I think it needs to be-35° in WI to get that same warning. Lol
Right, not treated. There's a sawmill nearby and a couple years ago my BILs and I hauled 20 something triaxle loads of cut-offs and rejects. It's about 60% oak, 25% hickory, and 15% cherry based on what we hauled. I don't know if that was their desired mix or just what we happened to get.
Well, -25C feels -38C this morning, so things are getting somewhat better here. Cracked over 6.5 hours sleep in 2 chunks, so I'm almost dancing on clouds here lol. Was the most sleep I've had in three weeks! Little chernobyl pulling hard and the furnace giving a boost. Pine as always.
-25c/-13f with no wind chill thankfully. Burning a chunk of birch, lodgepole pine and a bigish round of doug fir. Looks like we will be getting some good snow accumulation tomorrow. Im seeing above freezing temps on our horizon so that will be nice for a break.
I use denture cleaning tablets in my coffee pot overnight filled with water.Next day wash the pot with dish soap and metal scrubber.Pot is clean as a whistle.
I stopped having a stove that I had to feed every 5hrs many years ago.Am I understanding you bed down at midnight and get up 2.5 hrs later to put more wood in until 4:30 am ?That's not going to work for me.I need my rest. There are stove that will allow you to sleep all night now.If you can afford one get one,You'll be better rested for it.
