I just expect rain. Will believe the 10+" when I see it though. The storm will be hundreds of miles from here. Just outer bands and a combined low are meeting and stalling to produce expected rain.
Not much rain around here for the last month, I burned some wood tonight that was sitting outside uncovered
I dont think the sun has really been out in over a week here? Well part of like wend and thur...but other than that was it!
Burning ash right now in my initial run of the season. First year, I've had what I consider a decent excess. Logs still to process this fall, but more than I can burn of seasoned ash for the year no matter how cold. First time, I've been this far ahead. Low of around 48 here tonight.
The big change for me was buying the '92 Silverado. I can load anytime I want and easily get to and move the splitter. For those without a truck, I know how much more difficult it can be to score free wood.
By the way, Woodstock is running a good deal on the Ideal Steel with all the trim options. $2150 for a 3.2 cubic foot stove and 620 pounds of mass. If I was starting over, I'd pick that up no question. 3 cubic food stove of that quality for under $2,500 is a great deal. Would be a chore to move around though.
42°F this morning. Rain and wind. Started another fire this morning. We're burning oak because its the only wood dry at the moment from the shed. Cover blew off my ss stuff. Will need a reload later this afternoon.
44º this morning and inside at 75º, rain a comin down outside. I'll wait a while before I decide on anything more in the stove.
Yes sir tarps can be a real pain.....I'm going to get my thermguard ordered up soon, not going through what I did last year in the below zero cold snap
Same here! It's epdm rubber roofing stuff. I even had larger splits on it, but it came off anyway. I have a little more to put into the shed before any snow flies.
That rubber stuff is much better.. Wish I had that stuff but I don't and just leave the outside stacks uncovered.. They dry pretty fast once the wind and sun hits the wood again..
Had a hot fire last night night and reloaded at 11. It's 73 in here at 8 a.m. I will relight tonight. Shoulder season is a breeze. I have completely changed my mind on pine. I love it for shoulder season given that it's had time to dry out well. I put a big split on top of pine that weighed very little, and I had a great light show without running me out of the place.
Loaded the stove again, and its toasty in here. Funning thing just happened.......... the central air kicked on! Ran to the thermostat and shut it down!
