Hows that cherry? Does it give a nice smell when burning or do you have to go outside to smell it

 

21* Loaded oak and ash to get the house warm before going out to the deer blind.

 

the coals are getting deep, over half the depth of the firebox in some places. Reloaded with a few splits of ash. Gonna let these burn off today. House gonna get chilly luckily it gets up to 40 today

 

another snowy day, about 12" last night, -6c, 21f, School Bus are canceled, ash burning in the stove, out to start blowing snow and get everything clean up.

That’s a lot of ash. I cleaned mine out today but left some in there as the norm.

 

It’s amazing how many snow days my kids get every year. Growing up in the Bronx NY we would walk to school in a few feet of snow. We get a inch of snow and it’s a 2 hour delay

 

yesterday we got 10+ inches, nothing plowed and snow squall warnings and we drove, today no warnings,10+inches again and we are cancelled, The difference is we live on the border of two School districts, and half way between two weather stations. If our school board office in a town, 20 miles away gets warnings or snow they cancel even though we have nothing and the same the other way around.

 

Down to 28f heading to 54 for the high today. Probably will clean the ash out of the IS tonight before reloading.

 

Was 21 here early this morning, now 24, and going to a high of about 32 they say. A mix of Pine, Cherry, and Beech in the Wood gun now.

Another dusting of snow overnight; just enough to have to put the shovels down.

Highs in the 30's for the next handful of days. Some above freezing, some below freezing.

Bouncing between -5C/22-ish F and just above freezing today. Pine and poplar uglies feeding the reactor this morning.

That's the good and bad of living southeast of the big snow making machine, Georgian Bay, great for snowmobiling and skiing, as a matter of fact some of our ski resorts plan to open this weekend, snowmobiling won't get started till January if mother nature cooperates.

 

We have heard people warming up snowmobiles around us for at least 2 weeks.

 

Nice day here. 40 and sunny with hardly any wind. Looks like we will stay above freezing until next week.

Burning down some coals in the boiler today with silver maple.

 

Got home from work a few minutes ago..62 in the house. Got a fire going asap. 42 outside right now, will be 32 in the morning. Kept a fire goin all day Monday and Tuesday, 75 in the house all day long was cozy. Really was the first time I had a long duration fire in this new stove.

I'm learning the subtle nuances of operating the stove to get better and better (more efficient and evenly heated) burns. Was building my fires stacked way too high up with too much kindling. Being able to see thru the glass helps me to know what the fire is doing.

My only woodstove experience before this was in my teens with a couple of old GrandDaddy Fisher stoves at my late fathers house and in his bunkhouse growing up. What amazing me about these modern stoves is that I can throw a thick log onto a fire that's basically gone, barely still warm and it'll start back up beautifully with vigor. It amazes me how much wood I can save using this modern stove.

No smell in the house from any wood. If I have a stove full of cherry and the wind is hitting right you can smell it. Pleasant smelling. Cherry is not my favorite wood but I end up with a fair amount of it as it is plentiful around these parts.
