TOH= Tree Of Heaven, I think.
Currently 55 and that is pretty much the high for today. No fires yet, but need to clean the chimney this weekend.

Stephiedoll is correct. TOH is Tree of Heaven. It’s a giant weed. Very invasive. But actually pretty dang good firewood.

37* with 30+ mph winds and light rain this morning. Light rain all day yesterday and high was maybe 50*f
Kinda chilly in the house this morning, gonna have to get some wood hauled in this weekend. I usually try to hold off until Halloween but might have to start a few fires before then.
Grandson (age 5) was over last night and likes to run the shop vac, so I did get the hearth and wood storage area cleaned up and ready.

Oh, Tree of Heaven... or hell... I have a patch of them on my property that I can't get rid of but tbh I haven't tried very hard as of yet to get rid of said weed.

Also, I had heard that it was not very good firewood. If it is good, heck I'll take it down and burn it, but I had heard it was garbage for that as well.

Its an ok shoulder season wood. Good to burn when you're around the house, because it burns fast. Sometimes it has a stink to it. I have a bunch of TOH on my property and rather see it rot, I figure with a little effort, I have some free BTUs, though it may not be the best, it gets the job done in SS.

Tree of Heaven’s scientific name is Ailanthus altissima. It’s actually good firewood. Check out this btu chart from a detailed report on controlling it. It’s up there with some pretty good company.

A varied mix of well seasoned hardwood heating up the Wood Gun and buffer tank this morning. You Firewood scrooges give some of it up to the hungry burner. It has been hibernating long enough!

49* with rain. Day of burning will be a mixture of very dry tulip poplar, Black cherry, TOH and some ash

30 F outside this morning, with a light dusting of snow on the driveway. 70 degrees in the house.

Burning Aspen in the Jotul, and having some strong coffee.

    My favorite time of year.

Calling for rain most of the day into tonight with temps not making it out of the 50's. Just lit the first fire in the grandma bear in the basement to take the chill out of the house.

IMG_6714.jpeg Around 50F out and raining for the majority of the day. My wife said she was chilly so I started the first fire of the season in the fireplace. Burning a few splits of ash. I think it will still be a few weeks before we fire up the indoor wood furnace.

Been in the 50s here for a while, been rainy.

Haven't fired up the OWB yet, but it's coming very soon, house is starting to get cold, been about 58 in the house.

Was Hoping to get the boiler drained and refill with new water/water treatment and put a new water to air radiator in the furnace before I fired it up but don't think it's going to come before I have to fire it up.

I had a giant come down some years back one winter.I cut it up and split it and it dried out in five months. The next winter I used it and it burned well when in log form.I got two cords from that tree. It's a fast growing tree that I would grow if I had the space and cut them when they were just the right log size.

image.jpg First fire of the season
Was around 45*F when I came in around 8:30 this evening. Been in the low 50s and wet for the last couple days, and the wife and I have both felt a little chill a couple times. So I brought in some shoulder season wood and a few small splits of mulberry just to give some a try. Mulberry in the stove now. The stack next to the stove is about a 50/50 mix of hackberry and the last of my river birch.
I’m glad to see the RB finally gone. Burns ok, but that flaky bark really trapped a lot of blowing sand for a couple years while I was overhauling my back lot. Terribly messy stuff.
