Another storm coming. a bit of ice glaze starting at 4am tonight, then 6-18 inches of snow for the next 48 hours with winds as high as 60mph. Mother nature just won't leave us alone. Burning ash that I probably shouldn't.....it not quite ready...
So, what did you end up with so far? Good thing is that it won't last too long this time of the year.
So far, we are at about 6 inches total, but it's going to continue snowing until about midnight tomorrow night. Then 50-60mph winds after that
14° F. this morning, still over a foot of snow on the ground. This is the heaviest winter we've had, ever. My wood shed holds 3.5 cord of softwood (pine, fir, cedar) and 1.75 cord black oak. For the first time I have used all of the softwood. Will be digging into one of the covered stacks today.
Still snowing. Now we must be at about 10+ inches. Most businesses in Aberdeen SD are shut down. Our governor said everybody stay home state wide. I went to work and they got me a hotel room, just in case of an emergency for a customer. I may be stuck away from home for a couple days.
Had a maple/apple fire this morning when it was about 40 outside. Very pleasant at 69 and sunny right now. I’m not done burning for the year but the need for fires is getting to be less and less.
Sorry to hear. I load up in the morning before work and my wife is good about keeping it fed, especially on cold days. However she’s got this phobia about loading it up overnight. She’s uncomfortable with a raging fire while we’re sleeping. I try to get a heaping pile of coals by bedtime to carry us through to about 4:30am when I get up. On the really cold winter nights the furnace still kicks on.
38/48 Doug Fir and fir bark but the stove is not stuffed. Just enough wood to keep enough temp for reburn otherwise the house gets too hot. Both the Wif and myself sicker than dogs. She with a bad cold and me with bacterial bronchitis. Probably the same bug, I just have it far worse than her. I'm surviving on prednisone and antibiotics. Laying low and getting better slowly.
Almost 80 today and beautiful. Washed my truck, detailed the wheels, shined the tires and installed seat covers. Calling for over 80 tomorrow.
How old are the kids? If they are responsible enough, it's an easy fix. Maybe the wife is scared of the duties associated with wood burning? Too bad at any rate.
