Supposed to be in the 20's for lows the next few nights. Stove seen a full load after work today, it's been a while since I've done that. I've only not needed a fire for a few days this spring, the 10 day tells me I'll be burning into May without another break. Gotta say it's getting old! That only leaves 3 months where I "might" not have a fire, June, July and August.
Full load for me to , and it's been a while since I've done that, forecast is low 28, loading a mix, maple, ash and a little oak
34º out, 74º in....just put a load of red oak and locust in the stove. Didn't reload this morning before going to work and when I got home it was cool in here so I got it going right away at about 5:30. I won't make that mistake tomorrow morning as it's not supposed to be warm at all tomorrow.
Right at 32 this morning. Pine slab wood burning in the boiler. My Pine slab supply should get me through the weekend and then it will be gone.
20f now but supposed to get into the low 40's with sunshine. that'll knock down most of that snow from mon tue wed! May not build a fire in the basement today.....
Kept the stove cold for around 3 weeks now, but after this cold front that ripped through, our night time temps are below freezing again. Will be time for the SS mix.
Just walked a little under a mile with Artan, then moved the remains of my twig pile from last years tree cutting onto a flat bare piece of bedrock, so I can get the rest of the leaves raked in the front yard. About another week of burning and all those twigs will be gone. Seems like Mother Nature is going to be sure I have plenty of time. It is doing something out, but I don't know what to call it. The precip looks like fake snow. It is definitely white, but falling like hail. And falling pretty softly, not as vigorously as hail. On the ground, it looks like little round balls of fake snow. It is also falling intermittently. Had to bring the pup in and check on my brother, but going to head back out in a few minutes and try to get most of the leaves in the front yard bagged, for later use on the potatoes. As long as the wind doesn't blow the leaves off and make your potatoes get green from the sun, then it is way easier to grow the potatoes in leaves than in soil. Digging for most varieties is far less work in the Autumn. Most are simply sitting in the leaves. One or two varieties seem to like to push their tubers into the hills between the rows, and then they are a pain to find, because they are not where you expect them. They'll actually be in the top of the hills. I tried straw two years ago, which made the mice and moles very happy and thus seriously impacted my final yield. Apologize for getting off topic. Obviously anxious to plant my potatoes. Most of my 13 varieties have growing eyes and are starting to get long stems....time they were in the ground. As soon as the nights are above freezing, they are going in. Could be a few days yet......
Heading down to the mid to upper 20's tonight. We had many snow squalls today and tonight. Loaded the stove with a few splits of poplar a couple hours ago and will drop on a couple splits of hickory and oak tonight. Feels nice to have a fire again not having one for a few weeks. The puppy is back to his normal sauna area.
Hey Zap, I see you're a quick learner! One smackdown from the Mrs. and you have the stove fired up for the next morning!!
... Called it too early. Yesterday the highs were in the 40s and last night hit freezing. At dinner time the house was down to 64°F and I needed a fire. No warmer today and freezing again tonight. My wife wanted to put in the spring flowers, glad we waited. Probably keep the stove going 'till tomorrow morning. KaptJaq
Hi of 40 yesterday, Had a full load cookin last night , ash n maple, was 26, 52 today chilly again tonight low 28
Burning in the outdoor firepit today. Brush and some bark going into the mix, there's a small breeze so it's burning fairly quick...love the smell of an outdoor fire.
Out for a road trip and felt like minus 10 elm brewing in the T5 right now Big plans tomorrow with a half dozen dead elm I dropped a few months ago which I forgot about.
We had 26 degrees this morning so we have some Hemlock going. It looks like we'll be burning for another 3 or 4 days.
