Wow, some cold temps checking in! Was 28 when I woke, the deep chill is due Friday/Friday night here. Stay warm friends.
8 degrees and no wind for once. Might even see a little sunshine today. More oak and hickory in the boiler. I didn't think it was supposed to get so cold last night so it was nearly empty this AM. Water was still 160 and the house is still plenty warm so no big deal.
I turned up the thermostat on the furnace to make sure it was functional as we might need it this weekend. We were away at Thanksgiving and it hasn't run since.
It was 2° here this morning when I got up. The coals in the stove were warm but not hot enough for a restart...had the fire rolling on a mix of box elder and ash before heading to work.
What little dirt that's showing through the "a little mushy" ice is starting to get a little "tacky". That should harden up nicely in the next few days.
61 inside when I got up. 30 or so outside so not terribly cold. Stove up to running temp and air cut back within the hour before I left for work. 63 when I was walking out the door. It's been so mild here I've been a bit of a miser with my wood supply. Even with the cold on its way this weekend, looks like it'll only be a couple days, no real deep freeze like many of you guys are experiencing.
Temperature is much higher today than yesterday but with the wind it feels much colder. They say it is 26 right now. Maybe but even with heavy gloves my fingers got really cold. Next 2 days supposed to be cold and windy. At least yesterday and today we've had beautiful sunshine.
22/70 Ash coals now, about be be ash rounds on ash coals. I've got a couple more honey locust big boy chunks for our next cold snap, expected Thursday night, all of Friday, and ending mid day Saturday.
Bah! Neither truck would start to pick up kid from bus. I get it, like -20 a couple nights in a row and I haven't driven either in days.
23/74 heading for 15 overnight. Buck is choochin on American elm and sugar maple. Locust and ash on deck.
Not bad now but Friday it’s gonna be real cold. Brought in some Black Locust and piled it near the stove. While I was out there I remembered I had quite a few extra long splits of red oak that I tossed out of the stacks when I was selling wood. 20-26” I have no idea what I was thinking about three years ago LOL Tossed them in the basement. They’ll go in the wood furnace Friday. My backup holy smokes it’s cold outside stove. Thought about buying oil but,,,,meh, why? Now I won’t have to cut them shorter.
Sun twenties again tonight. Just stuffed the dragon with the last of my beech limbs and some big splits of poplar. Tomorrow the chips will be flying
Should make ice the next couple a days. Get the tip ups ready! while you all do that.....I'll just stay next to the stove and drink room temp Busch and clean saws, file chain and surf the web.
