Our back porch chimes woke me 3 times last night. Supposed to calm down on sustained but gusts are predicted up to 35.

Its slowly warming up from the previous few mornings -21c/-6f right now with the stove loaded to the gills with Larch. It looks like a beautiful Sunday. We went to the city yesterday and came back with a haul of meat so I have to decide quickly what to put in the smoker.

Strange weather this year. Usually I can count on being colder than much of Canada, but it looks like you have me beat! Wonky weather here, about -10C/14?F right now, but the forecast in a few days has us jumping above/just below freezing daytimes for a week or better. I'd rather it just stay -10 to -15 C, as the fire is easier to run without blowing the doors off from too much heat.

Yeah you are usually colder than me for sure at least during the coldest periods. I remember a few years ago you had a winter that had you in a long harsh deep freeze that didnt seem to want to let up. We drove into Alberta yesterday and it was -18c/0f when we left our house at 11 am and within 30 km it was already at 0c/32f. I see in the forecast that we have a warm up coming. Hopefully it doesnt get to wet out. At least the lakes are set up for fishing now so a bit of above freezing shouldnt affect things to much.

30F and dropping towards the high teens by dawn. I’m trying like heck to use up the last of this 2.5 year dried white birch before the end of the week. It’s alright for burning, but nothing I’m going to go out of my way for again (unless I end up living in the frozen north one day :))

Fit one more little split. 1120222019_Film2.jpg

    26.14+ 1.58= 27.72 lb of wood.

Will be intresting to see what the weight is later in the season when the heavy hitters are loaded into the stove.

We've got a few pieces of this, can't remember what it is. I thought catalpa, but I think that's in a different shed. Seems heavy for the size, might be a big redbud we cut or mulberry.
The app didn't help this time, it gave me mango on the bark, larch on the end grain 1121220713.jpg 1121220714.jpg
