33 and snowing! First snow of the season with about a half inch on the ground so far. A small load of white birch to carry us through most of the night.
Got back in from deer opener in my zone and warming up the shack. Only yard deer and a group of 4 little ladies out there...no bucks to be seen. Drowning my sorrows in this few degree below freezing weather with pizza, the stove is eating poplar and slab cut offs.
30 F with a little bit of snow on the ground. Maybe a 1/2”. Ash and some Maple in the Wood Gun this morning.
Made a written note at work in worcested: 20:25 11.14.2022 first snow. It was beautiful. And, as.of this morning, was still well coating the ground....sadly none here at home in middle CT. sca
5F at 8:00 am Pretty cold for around here this early in the season. Standing dead elm and some river birch in the stove.
Well, I guess Ol' man Winter finally arrived, and I'll be splitting in the snow. Much prefer that to processing firewood in the heat/humidity. No rush anyway as this is all for 24/25 and beyond. 34 outside right now (snow is transitioning to a wet mix) and burning Norway and silver maple chunks/uglies (first time ever burning Norway maple).
Ditto, I keep my thermostat at 45 just so the pipes don't freeze (in the even the wood stove goes out) but usually like the inside around 60-65. If the inside gets over 70 in the winter, I'll have windows open.
No fire overnight, but got up early to start one to warm the family. More ash... in fact, that will be most of what we use this year. Was 63F in the house when I got up, and pushing 67F or so (with much burn to go) when I left for work. Family will have a nice, warm day!
40 and dropping towards freezing by dawn. A mix of white birch, red oak scraps, and one mulberry split throwing the heat tonight.
