Low is 33 tonight. Perfect night for my first-ever fire. We got a Buck 74 for our home and I have been spending hours scouring the Internet trying to learn how to get a clean fire going.
We are burning some red maple tonight

Box Elder is the equivalent of a slump buster you pick up at the bar when its 3 minutes until closing and youve drank way too much.

First frost warning came yesterday. Spent some time yesterday splitting a couple white pine logs. A lot of it down to kindling size.
Moved some more beech splits and limbs to the woodshed by the boiler.

30 degrees now. Lots of reports of snow in MI yesterday but only a few spots had enough to cover the ground.

    33 overnight. 36 now. Windy.

A couple more cooler nights (low 30's) and then a couple mild nights coming.

32 this morning. Maybe should have started the stove, but going to warm up and don't want the house too warm. _WeatherBug.jpg

It was 40 here when I got up and went out with the dog (I slept in and did not hunt this morning). Started a fire to take the chill off and the house is at 70. Burning mostly ash and cherry odds and ends. Coffee is in hand. Happy Saturday to all!

49/76 last night. 76*ish for the next week so no fires for a while. A few days ago it went to 47* overnight so I actually started the electric furnace for a half hour in the AM! Day was hotter later so a fire would have been too much. Fall and winter are in the offing though. I can feel it in my bones (or maybe I'm just getting old). But then the Owls keep telling me it is going to be a colder than normal winter!

We had 30.2 this morning with the house still at 70. We had a small shoulder season wood fire and another smaller fire after, the temp up here is 72 heading to 73.

Last night I did have a fire with some ash, we still had enough coals this morning that the pine took off.

A chilly 44 with a breeze here this afternoon. Looks like fairly mild temps this week coming. Good for cutting firewood. I’m burning a short fire at night and another in the morning. Then turn boiler off and coast on the 60 gallons of hot water in it and the 400 in the buffer tank. Occasionally have to open some windows to let some heat out but it beats burning oil. Zero of that going on!
