It's about 40° here. All but the biggest snowbanks are melted, crocus are blooming, and other bulbs are sprouting.

Going down in temp this evening and each night for the next three. It looks like anyway. Suppose to hit 7º tonight/early morning. W.T.F.?

28° out now at 7:15. I'm burning ash, and elm. I'll make the most out of the 36° forecast for tomorrow with some wood hauling from the forest.

    It can warm up anytime.

I'm tellin Ya. The new normal is winter is one month behind. Last year. Now this year. Same. Prepare for another mild fall this coming year, with a few cold days here and there. And a late winter that will hit hard and stay through March at least. What does that change for us wood hoarders? Nothin.:emb:

Holy crap. It's 4º here right now. A little wind is blowing every now and then. This morning its dead Pine relieving the Ash/Pine mix from last night.

Yup. 2F here, high of 17F at 4 PM, then plummets to 0. A mere 24 degrees F below normal temps, and 23F colder than the same day last winter. It has been a COLD winter.

I don't know if I am just getting used to the cold, but the house seems to stay comfortable with a lot less wood than I was using. Have just been keeping small fires going. Loaded two splits of maple (moderate sized) about 11 PM, just reloaded onto a good bed of coals, again two rather small maple slits. Overnight, with it quite cold out, the house temp only dropped from 70 to 62 with that small a fire. Nice sleeping temperature. It will quickly be back up to 70. It is brilliantly sunny at the moment, supposed to cloud over soon. (actually, accuweather is telling me it is cloudy, but it isn't). We've had more sunny days this month than in the past year. Flurries this afternoon. Rain and snow later this week, but really cold until Tuesday, when the high is 32F. Didn't know it was going to get windy, Rotti, but makes sense. The cold has to come from somewhere. So I guess that wind will blow in after 4 this afternoon. Going to try to get out for a few hours around noon, when it may be sunny and in the mid teens. At least the ground won't be a mud rink today.

Definitely going to bring some wood in...maybe even a few splits of Ironwood...for this evening. Wind and 0F, I think I'll play with fire tonight. Nice big fire to keep us company.
