It's snowing here at the moment. Yesterday morning we had a brief blizzard but it melted off fast. Snow levels are continuing to go down in the woods. Of course there is fire killed white and black spruce burning gently in the woodstove. I got the east wall of the Arctic Entry sided with imps yesterday. And installed the window. Next , my plan is to put the skip sheathing on next and the metal roofing. Then I can side the north and south walls and install the door. Then That project will be accomplished. Just in time for dry up to start. I can hopefully get the sawmill going (gotta install the new coil, points and condenser. ( Mechanicin ain't my strong suit ) I have 5 logs to mill up. Then go search for more sawlogs.
Eric, I'm, amazed at the brief time between you going from burning wood to pool time In fact, it seems like you guys just about skipped the 50s and 60 ° weather. Went from 30s and 40s to 70s and higher. Wow !
Cold Trigger Finger We had temps in the 90's the last couple days and next week we will be back in the 60's and 70's with lows in the 40's. Weather here gives us a good excuse to have a varied wardrobe for whatever mother nature throws at us.
I have enough to do the walls of the 25 x 34' garage I hopefully will get built this summer. Lord willing ! They were stacked on the property when we bought the place ! There were more than 70, 10 footers . They cover 42" each. If I don't have any mis cuts on this entry. I'll still have 55 , 10 ' and I have 7, 20 footers. It will probably freeze again tonight. Fks in the stove. Which I let get going a bit more than I wish I had. A little warm in the house.
Finally got some much-needed rain last night with intermittent showers today and heavier storms tomorrow. Heat broke as well (highs close to 90 yesterday) and it was in the 50s this morning. To think I had the stove going just six days ago with nights in the 20s. Nothing compared to out west however this forest fire that started yesterday morning is only seven miles away from home so cause for concern. The responders did a good job on the initial attack but it's still smoldering so they are going back out today to reassess. Come on rain. Not often you see a train responding to a fire (although there is a possibility a train actually started the fire). The railroad brought up three tankers for refill purposes to augment refilling the pumpers from streams.
Got down to 42 overnight; 48 now. Heading for the upper 60's. Looks like a couple nights in the 30's this week for here.
A warm mid-80's yesterday, but a great 58 this morning. Had storms roll through but no rain (once again).
Dare I say, I believe the burn season is over for me. Have had a bumch of rain last 2 weeks. Weeds are growing like...well weeds.
I think that is great the railroad is helping out . I take it the rail runs close to the fire. Was partly cloudy here this morning with all the puddles froze over. But the sourronding ground was not froze. Now it's raining and not all that warm. Last I saw it was 38°F. Fire is out in the woodstove. I'll build a new fire this evening.
That railcar appears to be placarded for "Dangerous". Not sure what that would be for a fire scene. OTOH, that could be some sorta fire suppressant....not water. Larger tankers can hold 30,000G, the one pictured looks smaller though. Trains regularly start fires, sometimes due to lack of maintenance (load-testing etc.) brakes that stick, or are brakes being used on a long decent. Cool pic!
60's all night, 80's last few days. Haven't had a fire in 3 or 4 days. Heading for the chimney soon, I'm kinda curious how we did with less than optimally dry wood towards the end of the season. Sca
I was at the incident command center on Saturday. The 8,000-gallon railcar was full of water. The owner of the scenic rail line recently purchased a fire suppression rig that can be brought out for just these kinds of events. Unfortunately, they are still in the process of getting it ready for the rail.
Currently 62 here. Big wave of storms predicted from noon to 5 today. This mud season keeps on keepin’ on. It’ll take a solid month of no rain to be able to ride now my side yard.
The rail line runs right through where they had the Incident Command Center so it was easy to refill the vehicles.
46 heading to low 50's only. And thats fine. Lake is open, fishing is in full swing (boats are about 30' off the shoreline ) and the sun is shinning!
