4 degrees Fahrenheit here with a slight breeze. Cold enough the boiler was empty after 9 hours. And the bubblin goo turned on. Oh well, reloaded and restarted with some lit paper and very small splinters of Pine and Beech that were broke off larger splits. Then loaded Beech and Maple splits on top.
10º here with a good stiff breeze. Had a load of coals this morning that I’m burning off with a topping of small ash splits. Had to turn on the furnace for a half hour to get temps up. Heating oil is up to $3.90 a gallon in this part of the state. It’s just crazy.
Not nearly as cold as predicted overnight (18). The forecasters are into a spell where they can't seem to get it right. It does make me wonder with a big storm on the way. Of course their predictions keep changing. Rai, ice then snow, but how much? At first about 1/10th inch of rain and now 1/2 - 3/4" and snow anywhere from 4 - 12". I just hope we get some melting at first to loosen this ice in the driveway.
19 now, headed for close to 50 today. They're saying we could get 2"-4" of RAIN the next couple days. Boiler is still working on some hickory and ash from yesterday. I'll load it later this evening.
As I did not have my chimney/ ceiling flange installed until part way thru the winter. I was loosing Lots of heat up to the silicone stack boot on the roof . With all the snow we had. I got a doozy of an ice dam at the eaves. As the temp would drop , it would Pop or Bang. It would drive me nuts as I worked real hard to have an almost perfectly vented roof. Live and learn. I got the ceiling flange installed and no more increase of ice. Next winter I don't think I will have any ice up there.
Around 5 above 2 rounds of Black spruce have been in the stove since 11 last night. That's 11.5 hours of burn time . That wildfire killed Black Spruce is some good stuff
Been colder than normal here. Wood shed is looking sad. 5.5 cord +- used, One more cord under lean-to. 2+ yrs. CSS at staging area plus 4-5 cord to process.
