-12°F ambient temperature Fire killed White Spruce in the stove . I think this is my very Best stove loading to date. It took a good amount of "English" to get them in there. Notice the waffle tracks on the left round
Sounds like the fellow who wrote to thank the weather folks after he finished shoveling 14" of partly cloudy from his driveway.
17/71. Threw a round of chestnut oak on the coals this morning. It was about 6” long and probably 14” in diameter.
Did it snow anywhere else in the area that they do the forecast for? I didn't know this until a couple years ago, but that's what that % chance means. However, 11" isn't something that's typical for only a 5% of the area has a chance to get snow, and the "less than an inch" part they completely whiffed on. 18° here, elm and ash in the stove now after an overnight load of 2 big ash "flats" that stuffed the stove. Stove room was 74° this am. We're supposed to get snow showers today. Technically they are right because there was a light dusting of fluff everywhere this am.
21 outside now....supposed to get down to 10 tonight. Checked the boiler a little while ago and it was still half full from last night's load of ash.
Right now it is about 45 and going down to 28 tonight. As we speak, I’m burning some three years CSS hickory and 4 years dogwood. Deer season is over as is duck season. Time to relax by the fire.
I think we had a temp just over 16 this morning, another load of the maples and some cherry went in the Liberty.
You just wanted to show off that almost full tank of gas 22 out right now, feels awesome after having weeks below zero, and they are calling for low 30s for the day time highs tell Saturday! It's going to feel like summer this week. 70 inside with burr oak in the OWB.
Snot often I get to drive a car that tells ya the outside temp. Warmed up to 41 today. Felt good in the sunlight. Won’t be long now!
We got the majority of the snow in the area. But most of this whole mountain region got between 5-10 inches. It was funny, my weather app was telling me all day that it was sunny and in the 30’s all day. But it was snowing and in the teens all day. So, for some reason the storm wasn’t on the radar or something? I think it was just a weird little storm that rolled over the divide unexpectedly.
Today’s forecast was for a slight chance of brief freezing precip this morning. What we got was a 1/2 day of freezing rain, huge pileup’s that shut down I40 and 52, a car that ended up in the bottom of a stairwell at a church, at least 1 fatality, cars in ditches everywhere. Supposed to see some temps in the 60’s later this week.
My trucks heater don't work worth a chite, so I always know what the outside temp is... Same as the inside
Life in the mountains. They still blew that forecast though. Be prepared, and it's not a problem. Have gas, milk, bread, and TP on hand 15° out here now. Ash in the stove. 76° in the stove room. Headed to the upper 30's here tomorrow.
