40+'s forecast for the next 2 weeks here. I'm back to shoulder mode! Burning mostly poplar, with some maple or ash mixed in if I want a longer burn.
Thanks rottiman! I am feeling much better. Just waiting to get back to 100% energy level now. Almost there. At the end of a work day I am wore out. But early to bed each night, water, juice, chicken noodle soup helped.
Didn't know you were sick , hope ya feel good as new soon bud 43 now , 47 today , love it Burned up some pine today
58F outdoors here... No fire. House is still 68F from fire last nite! Rain for next few days, 60's for daytime highs. 'Course there's always the surprise cold snap lurking out there. Eric VW
Yeah , we have been lucky with not much snow , I hope it doesn't cool down and dump on us , it could happen, got dumped on big time ,in April one time
I know it, too much history with that here, and when growing up on Long Island... Fun if you have a new 3 wheeler (HoneyFuzz)! Man, those were the times! Makes me want to hunt down a trike! Eric VW
Stayed above freezing here overnight. Burning some Ash and Pine this morning. I turned the boiler off last night just before bed and after I brought the basement to 82! Then fired it back up this morning. The back porch roof is still dripping like crazy. Almost looks like it is raining. The snow and ice from the high roof came down onto and added to that one the other day. So there is plenty there to melt.
41 here this a.m., amazing how much snow has disappeared in the last 2 days. Supposed to tighten up a little tonight with a high of -1 tomorrow. Shoulder season burns now with mixed wood. Gotta love spring, especially this year.
37 now. Never froze here overnite either. 46 yesterday and doesn't look like we've lost much snow. Ditches aren't running. Snow still not sliding off metal roofs. Ive been opening all the shop doors daily hoping the snow would all slide off. No luck yet. That lake ice is gonna have a long term effect on our temps well into July I'm afraid.
Can't let spring fever get to good a grip yet. We could still see a fair amount of snow yet. A snow or two in the beginning of April is the norm for us.
It was 37 this morning so we had one fire today with some Cherry. It looks like a cool down is coming with a possible 3-5 inches of snow, if not more. I've been scraping down the driveway with the plow on the rhino but tomorrow the plow will go on the truck so I can push some wet chit back even further.
Lots of people with smiles on their face, we'll still get some snow but the coldest of the cold is behind us. It will be interesting to see who gets whacked with this new storm this weekend.
We had 46. I'm thinking in another two weeks I can get back in to start cutting with the rhino, it wOOd be nice if it was sooner. If I can get 6 cord c/s/s by next fall, I'll be happy.
You're right Rotti. The weather guessers are guessing we're gonna have snow here Sat & Sun. Today felt perty good tho... it was 56 in Portland. We were about 50. Straight down from here.
7 PM and it is 40 here still. It must have been at least 45 today but I did not look at a thermometer in the afternoon. I was outside a few times though and it was just awesome! Sunny and awesome! I shut the boiler down when I left for work this morning and fired it back up tonight when I got home. Between it and the 400 gallon buffer tank the system made it through the day without the oil boiler coming on.
A few moments ago I thought I heard an airplane...then I thought it was coming right in the house. But it kept up...so I went and opened the sliding glass door, turned on the light. Monster wind and heavy snow. So I checked accuweather...they say it is 37 and raining. Not here, it isn't. Was supposed to be clear until Saturday, snow on Sat and Sun.Now they say rain late Sat, changing to ice then snow. How much fun. Lit a fire at 7 pm on the few coals left from last nights fire. It's about 78 in here again, and too hot. However, I'll deal with it....tee shirt for the time being. No fire tomorrow, I hope, until late. It is supposed to be 30 tomorrow but sunny, so if it keeps the house in the 60's I'll wait until evening for a fire. Did a lot of work on the road in the Autumn, so it wouldn't flood and be an ice rink at this time of year. Well, it's flooded, but not in as many places. And it's muddy, and you squish way down in when you walk. And the dog is indignant about having his feet washed before he is allowed in the house. Two long walks a day in this weather, to minimize the washing of the feet.....
