The first part is moving into NY, I don't think we'll miss this one, just gut feeling.

 

40 tomorrow and 63 on sunday!! Time to let this thing go out and do some inspecting.

 

Above freezing here the next 2 days. Low overnight on Sunday of 8 and overnight on Monday of -1. That's cold for this part of the country.

 

This is what .75 to an 1.0 inch of ice can do for damage.

Areas impacted with 3⁄4 to 1 in (19 to 25 mm) of ice accumulation included eastern New York in the Albany area, central and western Massachusetts, southern New Hampshire, coastal and south-central Maine, Pennsylvania in the Pocono Mountains region, northwestern Connecticut, and southern Vermont. Southern New Hampshire and northernmost Massachusetts got hit the worst with the storm with ice accumulations ranging from 1.5 to 3 in (38 to 76 mm) of ice. This left residents unable to get supplies, go to work etc. due to blocked roads from trees that fell on the roads. Any trees that fell quickly took down power poles. It took utility crews from 4 to as much as 16 days to get a look at the damage and start to restore power to nearly 1.3 million people. In all there were 675,000 residents in New Hampshire without power and around 500,000 in northern Massachusetts.[citation needed]

That sounds about right here too. We had bad ice in early December '08. Was a nightmare to drive in.

 

We went through the one in 98, they made us stay in the house except for essential personnel. The area I live in today were without power for a month, the 98 ice storm was worse than this one, I hope.

I don't remember '08 ice storm... But 98 was fun Road graders couldn't scratch the ice and it was too cold for salt to work.

 

98, Jan. was a big event all through this area. Steel line towers were brought down, wood poles snapped off everwhere. It is an interesting read if you care to read about it. All through Ontario and Quebec, most of the Northern part of the north eastern U.S.

Is this only slated for upstate or something? We have super warm weather slated for this weekend in the middle parts here. Maybe time to change the oil in the gen anyway just to be safe (procrastinator)

 

The last update calls for 3/4 of an inch of ice for our area, we will lose power. Before the ice they're calling for 3-6 inches of snow.

Our area is under a winter storm watch which usually means you'll get hit with the storm in 12-48 hours.

North of here the roads are getting chitty real quick (Norwood to Massena) they had more snow with some ice.

We'll be putting in more wood this afternoon, then I'll sharpen some chains, maybe put the tire chains on the rhino, the gas will be bought tomorrow morning.

I bought one of these before Sandy hit, we were spared so we never used it, at the time they were 99 bucks. We have a bunch of 5 gallon cans that will get filled too.

We are making plans for the weekend at the water plants and sewage plants this afternoon as i guess we could get up to 39mm=1.5 inch by Sunday ?
