That's the corn silage pile, it's on a blacktop pad, then covered with a heavy plastic made for silage piles Then for weight to hold it down and keep it good a weighed tarp then covered in tires, we only uncover and cut plastic back about 10 ft at a time to keep it fresh.
The pile is about 20ft tall.

I load, mix and feed out 5 loads of feed a morning, in the mixes there is around 40,000lbs of corn silage total per day.

And That's just the corn silage in the mixes
Today was 57,770 lbs to the milking cows, 7400 lbs to the dry cows and 12,000 lbs to the heifers.
Takes me about 5 hours every morning to feed.
They are milking around 500 cows.

I was expressing my surprise at the temperature since it was not forecasted at all. This one was missed by 25 or so degrees warmer for an overnight low.

I am only too familiar with cold temps and working in those conditions......years of going in to work leaving the house at 4:30 a.m. with -40 (I think -44 was the worst) and not being warm until that evening13-14 hours later.

Looking back on it, I wouldn't even think about going in for those conditions now-a-days.

21/72 just got a load of red oak and ash going for the evening. 10 predicted for overnight. Muzzleloader comes in tomorrow and I would love to go but with my knee torn up I will probably load the stove in the morning and look out the window.

11 degrees Fahrenheit right now with a steady breeze out there. :shiver:

Wood Gun filled up and no leaks at valve. Fired up and slowly coming up to temperature! Mix of Maple and Beech going now. Let’s hope everything goes smoothly and we don’t have any air problems.

Just down to 29f tonight. Half load of red oak before bed. Since I insulated I’m having to burn smaller fires. Usually just 2 small fires a day. It can be 15f outside and the house will maintain temp overnight. It’ll drop about 4-5 degrees overnight with no fire.

25 heading to the mid teens by sunrise. Going buffet style overnight tonight with a mix of apple, beech, black birch, yellow birch and black locust. Hopefully between all that I’ll have some coals to wake up to
