She was wondering how “thriving” it is there now. She says there was two stores back then. Mail order Montgomery Wards and a family run department store/gas station. And churches. The fort had pretty much everything needed.

I see it is still snowing this morning in Yooperland. Nothing here and crazy 34 degrees. Supposed to be low 20's by 5:00. Cold the next 2 days. I'm going to be burning some hedge that was gifted to me by Chvymn99 in the next couple days.

But. The part came in for the valve! Yea! Looks like it’s the right one. I hope. I’ll get that installed tomorrow.

Getting into the teens and single digits. My potpourri of firewood mix, shook out to bee a lot of poplar for overnight.

no worries, informed my wife that the day has come! Bitter cold before sunrise wood loading, and enjoying the quiet. Return to house for a freshly brewed cup to warm back up.

laughing like a mad scientist, as I crank up my “up yours electric company “ temperature

18F & the wind is switching to a NW direction overnight. That'll bump our snow totals here, we've got maybe 4" so far & supposed to snow through Friday morning, 6-12" for my area. Some blowing & drifting, many car crashes due to people not paying attention/slowing down. Both the boiler & the shop stove burning Oak. 74F in here, tad warm for me, but the dogs & cat are lounging happily.

Yep, good ol lake effect snow. Nice fluffy stuff, it'll make for good log skidding for sure. We finally get some actual winter. Been waiting for this for a few years!

We are sitting at -28c/-18f. Ive loaded the stove with larch for the overnight burn. We had a storm blow through and dump more than 2 feet of snow on top of our already deep snow pack a few days ago. The cornices of snow hanging off the roofs look neat. Weve had some neat wind snow formations recently.

    We

We have an IGA grocery store . But the roof collapsed 2 Sundays ago. But they moved over to half of the liquor store , so we still have a grocery store. 3 gas stations in town. 1 sporting goods and outdoor clothing store. 2 hardware stores . A clinic and a doctor's office. 2 dentists. 2 banks. Lots of churches.
Nice little town. Fairbanks is only a hundred miles away.
We have a pretty big gold mine not too far out of town. Pretty good outdoor motorized recreation store , Honda, Polaris and Bombardier and Stihl dealer

We are at -18°F ambient also !!!
    Cool
But the wind is blowing 15 or more mph.
    So , it's still chilly
Just loaded the stove with some nice 3" rounds of dry birch. And some rounds of dry aspen. And wiggled some little rounds of birch up above the smoke stop. It's as full as I can fill it.
Got a new alternator and battery in my F350 today. I'm a Very Happy Man !
My wife officially got laid off from her job today. As did all the employees. It's due to the roof collapse 2 Sundays ago.
So my wife is back home.
A friend has been here for the last 61 years.
Trapper. Forest fire fighter, farmer , logger and cabin builder. He also has an awesome old carriage sawmill that he runs every year. He used to have a 100 mile trap line that he ran with a dog team and sled. So I guess he was also a musher. I'm pretty sure he is the single most experienced Interior Alaskan that I know. He told me a couple days ago that this winter was the single worst winter he has ever seen.
It is sure the worst I've ever seen in the Interior. But I haven't been here all that long.
