30/72 with a mix of aspen, yellow and black birch. Flurries coming down outside, pancakes on the stove with coffee brewing. Trying to get nice and warm before I go outside to do the front brakes on my truck.
Got about 2" of snow last night, it has now warmed to 36 but it's supposed to drop and get a little more snow in the afternoon. 70 inside from last night's load of ash and maple.
You didn't get squat. We have 5+ inches on the deck right now in lower east Michigan... It's hovering around 30
25 out right now, they called for 1-3 inch's of snow yesterday but we didn't get even a flake and I am not complaining about it Have not gone out to top off the OWB yet so its still running on last night's basswood and maple but have a load of just basswood sitting in the wheelbarrow by it to go in
Ended up with about 3 inches here but it's not gonna stick around with the warmer temps coming up this week.
Doing my Sunday stove clean.... One thing about the first snow, the bump shops fill up with 'accidents', IOW stupid drivers. Especially if it happens on a Sunday evening for a Monday commute.
Holding right at 32 outside. 70 inside with the back door open but the storm door with the dog door is closed so the dogs can go in and out. In-laws over with my nephew so the dogs are going wild. DIY baby gate made out of the wire fence I set up at the garage door for the dogs. Fires got some mystery wood- maybe maple. Definitely a cottonwood chunk and a wood brick to mellow the moisture content.
I had to build a dog fence around our woodstove also. Our pups are too curious and they don't think much when they wrestle. Which is quite a lot. I had to make it strong enough so a hundred pound maremna crashing into it wouldn't knock it over. So far it accomplishes it's purpose. In hind sight, I should have built a concrete block wall around the stove. That way it would be safe to touch. And would be a heat sink.
26 out right now, did a load of all basswood this morning, just loaded it for the night with a basswood and maple mix.
That should hold a fire well. By Field Maple, are they trees that are growing alongside a field , like on a field stone wall. Or is it a sub species ?
Current temp . Again. Winds calm Black spruce in the stove keeping the frost at bay. In a while I will load the stove with Aspen for the night. Not sure what the temps are going to do tonight. Because of all the climate changers that own the weather services. None will just come out and say it's going to be 40, 50, 60 below. They will say it's going to be 35 below . When everyone's thermometer s are reading 45 below. Then they will say everyone's thermometer is wrong and they are right. I'm not sure what the cutoff will be for letting my wife drive to work. But if it's 45 below. I might take her and bring the truck home . Then go get her at quitting time. As she works at a fuel station , sometimes the pumps won't work in the mid 40s below and colder. Sometimes, some places will have an attendant dunk the nozzle in a bucket of Tanner Gas. I've had to use Lots of Tanner Gas on The Slope running air track rock drills. The control valves would build up ice . And the levers wouldn't work right.
How did the brake job come out ? I need to do a brake job on my E350 van . But , I'll wait till a bit warmer weather.
I hadn’t tried it overnight before but woke up 7 hours later to a red hot coal bed; couple of pieces of pine and some more maple on top and we’re off again. It is a sub-species and the only native maple we have here. I understand it’s sometimes called hedge maple in the US. Field Maple (Acer campestre) - British Trees - Woodland Trust
