Tonight we will be finishing burning the 1st full cord of fkws pretty much 2 months of heat. So that's pretty good. Still lots of air leaks in the house . And the temporary windows are just that.

30 degrees and mostly quaking aspen going, with a few splits of black birch on the bottom for some coaling action. First fire of the season for me :)

Good luck. I almost got skunked yesterday afternoon but did see 3. Saw 2 of them when I had to get up to relieve myself (a grand tactic almost guaranteed to bring deer in close). One other one was far away. I still was not a wasted time. How could it be when in the woods?

Wish I was doing that instead of work. Beautiful crisp morning to be in stand.

    Amen to that!

Had an ok bed of coals from last nights mix of ash when I got up at 4:40am.
All ash now with a split of cherry before going to work. Guess I better bring some higher BTU stuff to the forefront of this "cold snap" sticks around.

Low 30's this morning. First frost of the year and it was a killing one. Elm was the wood of choice this week in the boiler. 74 constant in the house. Nothing like the return of the smoke smell around the farm.

No fire tonight. It's supposed to be pretty warm the next few days. Next week, at some point we'll have colder temps. So probably no fire this weekend, aside from in the fire pit on Sunday.

30/73 3 splits of red oak that have been off gassing for over an hour. Stuff was dead that my buddy cut and gave me in August. It came in at 13% on the moisture meter.
