We have our windows open often during shoulder season. Love the fresh air coming in. If the furnace was on all the doors and windows would be tightly shut but not with the glorious wood heat.
Had our first fire of the season on Friday, burning field maple. Still doesn’t look like it’ll be cold enough for a fire in the next few days.
Some frost around this morning, heavy fog. 44F & raining now, wind is picking up as well. Supposed to rain thru tomorrow & stay mid 40's. This is the weather I absolutely despise. Mid teens & snow is much better. Got a mix of Maple, Ash & Elm in the boiler.
It was 55°F here all day, starting in with oak and maple. Got a bed of coals going and just adding 1 or 2 logs to keep things going. DW was beginning to bring wood up near the house.....not so much to have it there, but to vacate some of the stacks. I have 2 maybe 3 cord of c/s coming in in the next week or two. Will re arrange the stack formation and then go for the new wood. That'll put us at 29 ish c/s/s. According to our 24c in 3 years plan, I'll only need to bring in 3 cord next summer. I'm gonna follow in buZZsaw BRAD 's footsteps and start stacking offsite. And the gophers will frolic on our piles, we'll have hundreds of chipmunks and dozens of bunnies (if I were to ask our neighbors). Sca
35 F degrees here. Really warm for this time Of night/year. We went the Air Force game last night and had a blast! Currently burning some Cottonwood and Spruce.
Got it hooked up , insulated and backfilled and graded today. Not how I like to spend my weekends. But I'm very thankful I got it done while it was warm. Now that it's done, the temp has dropped to 17°F . Does in the stove. Built some supports down in the hole. Lot of work being the Job Super, gorman , grade checker, operator And Laborer. The day sure went by fast got done at 6: 30.
39F and we are enjoying the last few hours of last nights Elm load. 73F and hot coffee is almost to much heat!
I have 1 last mow in my lawn. I think it will be tomorrow. Then I'll take the mowing deck off the tractor so it can get stored in the garden shed. I brought my 48" snowblower attachment for the tractor back from the cabin. That's got to fit in the garden shed along with the tractor and the rest of the crap in there. So I'll be going through that this week and probably next weekend. We've been burning pine, mostly for, at night. One of these days we'll start burning 24/7, but temps in the 50's during the day, so we're not quite there.
Yard hack I learned last fall: mow the leaves in. Might take driving over the area a time or two with the mower. But they'll about dissappear, and be completely gone by the following spring. Works best in square ish lawns, skinny strips might be different. Sca
No kidding! My gauge shows 4.10". Even the ducks were looking for higher ground. Temp stuck at 45 with a stiff east wind made for a miserable day. Give me snow & 20 anytime. Boiler's got Oak, Elm, & Cherry in it.
