8º outside right now and supposed to be -2º overnight. High of 2º tomorrow then -17º tomorrow night Just filled the wood box with ash and hickory. 73º inside.
About the same thing we're looking at for tomorrow. -6 tonight, 0 tomorrow and -19 for the low tomorrow night.
9 right now, supposed to get down to -9 tonight, -14 thurs night. That's cold for Ky. Will burn 4 loads today and that's unusual, many days I only burn 2. Been burning mostly osage today and for the next few. This is the first time with the new stove that I've burned full loads of osage and I'm impressed with how long and hot the fires are. If I were burning my usual loads of mixed medium hardwoods my furnace would definitely be coming on in the morning like it did yesterday.
Back to firing up both stoves tonight through saturday from the looks of the weather.(same forecast as LP's) Gonna load up with cherry/elm tonight and hoard a little on the locust, wish I had a lot more of it to burn the powder ash build up in the stove seems to amount to about 1/2 of cherry, elm, and walnut. The blue flame heat it throws is the real pleaser. Keep warm Guys & Gals
-6 f here this a.m.. Cave is sitting @ 71. Stirring up both stoves to feed em' again. They love their beech/maple diet. Everybody stay warm.
10 hour burn and the house is sitting at 70°. It is -6° outside and I am putting in some White Oak and Shagbark Hickory. Stay warm everyone it is going to be a cold for the next few days!
Right at 5º on the back porch this morning. I had straight Ash in the boiler again when I went to bed early last night. And I did not get up early this morning and fill it. I shut it down about 5am and let it cool down. Going down soon to give it a good cleaning. Then fire it back up. Also need to run down to camp sometime this morning and clean the pot out in the pellet stove. All we got was about an inch of snow last night, if that.
At 10PM last night it was 6 outside,76 inside. Now its minus 2,will drop a couple more degrees after sunrise.Still 74 in here. 3 weeks ago I started burning that ugly old dead Red/White Oak from the latest cleanup of parents property. Its between 3 & 4 years old now, there's almost 10 cords of it left, cut between August 2010 & October 2014.Have burned about 1/2 cord in past month (bitter cold here, most of January too).Gave a big pickup load to brother in early December 2014 also. About half of the wood is excellent, remainder is average/marginal or slightly punky.Still burns alright though. Some of that was standing dead or on the ground 7-8 years I'm guessing. Wanted to start burning it cause some is past its prime now + already have a bunch of Silver Maple,Mulberry,White Oak,Green Ash & Black Walnut here in town that wont be ready until 2016-17.
raMinus 3f currently. Supposed to warm all the way up to minus 1 around noon or so. Last night was the last shift of my night swing, (ain't swing shift grand?) So I stopped up at the Briar Patch in Penneville for some beer and eggs with the fellas. This made me late getting home, and boy did I hear about it. It was all the way down to 72 in here! That woman cracks me up. When I met her she couldn't afford propane, so the house stayed cold during the day, and she'd light a kerosene heater when she got home and try to get it up into the 50s before bed. Her mother didn't "warm up" to me for some time, but she correctly told her "well, with him I won't have to worry about you being warm." And she didn't. 72 inside, -3 outside, oak, maple and a few sawmill slats in the princess.
-11 here last night. OWB - red oak rounds, ash rounds and hedge Inside wood burner - cherry and red oak
It's been brutally cold here the past few days with a brisk wind on top of it yesterday, windchills in the -30f range. Last night the wind finally died but the temps dropped down to -15f. Much easier to keep the house warm without that wind but I've still burned a crap load this week so far. Got up at 3am this morning to reload the Answer and she wasn't ready yet! I guess that's what I get for loading in a few over-sized splits of elm at 10pm. No biggie though, I just raked the charcoal forward over the coals, opened the primary air up, and closed the pipe damper nearly 100% and laid down on the couch with my cell phone timer set. Reloaded for real at 4am and went back to bed!
We burned the Pellet Stove last night for the overnight burn, we woke up to a temp of 6 outside. We went down to the basement for our coffee so I clicked the Pellet Stove off and made a nice fire in the Liberty with some Beech. We might hit -30 with the realfeel tonight so we'll be running both. Out of the firewood we planned on burning this year, we have four face cord/ 1.22 cord of Cherry left and two face cord/.61 of a cord of Hemlock left outside. If this colder weather continues, I'll be grabbing some Beech that was stacked in 2010.
woke up to below zero this morning, it's 4 degrees out of doors now w/realfeel of -12!! Gonna' slide down to -9 degrees tonight, hoping the wind quits blowing. I stuffed the owb with a mix of chinkapin and red oak, ash and hedge last night. Been raking/burning coals today making room for this evenings load, probably stick with all oak, it seems the ash burns down and buries the harder wood, the hedge supply is pretty much gone! Stay safe out there. Peace.
Calling for minus 35c windchill tonite and gotta bunch of elm and ironwood at the ready. You guys/gals over in the states try and stay warm eh.
