T-storm and rain rolled through over 4 hours ago. A mild 63 and the wind has died down to a breeze. Heavily overcast.
That’s the most badazz garbage truck I’ve ever laid eyes on! The trash service up here drives 4x4 Ram pickups with a compactor on the back. Much different than your bad boy.
26 degrees here at 9 am this morning. The bird bath froze hard last night. 72 degrees in the house. Burning off the last of my stacks of Douglass Fir bark today. Supposed to get snow at the house on Tuesday!
Got up to the 80's today. Watched the Packer game and did some more cutting weeds behind the house and hauling them into the woods. Hope to get the chimney cleaned tomorrow and then start on bring wood down to the house. It may be next weekend before I have my first fire, if then.
Got up to 42 today . Not so good . But no sense me stressing about it. Down to 31 at the moment. Fkws in the stove closed down tight. One thing about the warm conditions. I've got to rent a small excavator to do some digging here. I just might be able to get down thru the frost layer if these temps keep up.
72 here today. Looks like an unseasonably warm week ahead with temps in the mid 70's through Thursday. No fires here.
We woke up to -9c/15f this morning which is the coldest so far this season. Im glad I winterized the trailer yesterday after getting back from camping. We had a touch of snow fall last night but it didnt add up to much. I was curious about the MC of the standing dead doug fir I dropped over the weekend so burned some of it in the stove last night. It did reasonably well but not as good as the wood that I have seasoned. Once it warms a bit Ill stab it and see what it comes in at.
Was 17° F for the low this morning. Which was nice. But had over 40 for the high. Which made for shirt sleeve chores when I got home early this afternoon. I tried using one of those Stihl brand file things on the 271 I got the other day. If I lived on the coast, Ide have pitched it in the bay. It came with the saw. Could Not figure out how to use it. It is for .325 Stihl chain. The saw has .325 Stihl chain on it . The depth guage file part doesn't even touch the whole depth guage. So I took one of the round files out of it and filed the chain . After Ide taken the depth guages down 6 strokes of a rider file. All bare handed with no file handle or nuthin. Saw cuts Great now. Nice and smooth . And fast for what it is. Bucked up a couple weeks worth of fire killed white spruce poles to stove wood lengths. Burned about 1/2 a tank thru it. I like that saw. It's just kind of a basic , semi old fashioned chain saw. No nothin extra on it. Just a master control lever. A starter handle. Front and rear handles and a chain brake. I confess, I still haven't figured out how to set the throttle advance on my 572.. Fortunately I know how to hold the trigger open and start it.
We got a light dusting of snow yesterday. 28 degrees this morning so the IS was fed some walnut last night. Reloaded it this morning at 6 and it's currently 28 outside, 81 downstairs where the stove is and 75 up stairs.... Maybe too warm right now....
