Love Ironwood. I'm a hoarder of the worst sort. Have 9 rounds I've had in the house for two years now. They are being saved for "when it is really cold". I always want to have some Ironwood available. Then it gets like this spell, and do I burn it? Noooo....I burn sugar maple. I'm keeping it for cold weather....???? Just doesn't feel right burning it, when I can go out to the stacks and get more sugar easily. Truth is, I find wet, heavy snow and 25 degrees much worse AND more bone chilling than what we are experiencing this year. In that wet cold weather I just can't get warm. Dry extreme cold, I can get/ stay comfortable, except my hands. The other, when I don't want to do the shoveling, is what I love Ironwood's long burn cycle for.
-10 outside this morning and the house is 68-70 after a ten hour burn on white oak and hickory. Burning down some coals and putting more of the same in. Its so impressive that the weather man only missed last nights low by about 20 degrees!
Wow, warmed up to -11 f this a.m. Raked up the coals for a quick burn down and then a reload to get things rolling along. 72 here in the cave after a 9 hour burn by both stoves. Everyone have a safe warm day.
5f or so outside this morning when I got home at roughly a quarter of 7. Lovely lovely deep bed of coals in the princess. Raked them up and threw in a couple of kindling sticks, then let the pack back in. They were ready to come in. It was all the way down to .... are you ready? 80. My wife is so spoiled. Stove top at 250 or so. Though to be fair it's only 65 downstairs. Right now two slabs and a split of standing dead oak will have to get us through till I get up. Crazy night shift. Good night, all.
We had -19.5 this morning, we let both stoves go cold until tonight. We have Beech in the Liberty with the Pellet Stove going in the opposite corner. I cleaned the ashes out of the Liberty an then cleaned the glass & top of the stove.
