That is one thing I really enjoy seeing. Never tire of it. I can remember many times years ago when I would stop my truck just to watch them for a while.
It's 55 degrees here with the wind blowing. I have been having to let the fire go out of a morning and coasting till evening. I built a fire earlier tonight, and the first load brought it up to a comfortable temp in the house, but then I threw my second small load of Black Locust in the stove and now it's too hot. I have the front door open and a big window in the bedroom open letting the wind blow through the living room. But I have now just closed the bed room window. These shoulder weather days are harder to manage, unless I burn propane and I don't want to do that.
30° right now. 60° yesterday ! Burning some silver maple to knock the chill off. Stack in the garage is getting smaller and smaller.
35 here, just put a few random this and that in the stove. 48 today and teens tonight. Now that we gained more daylight in the evening it's time to get splitting and stacking.
It seems to like being 22 below in the mornings lately. AccuWeather is all screwed up this morning here they say it's -5 . It's a lot colder than that ! Seasoned aspen in the woodstove.
We had a pretty good show of the aurora borialis last night also. Too darn many moose here this weekend !
That's the size we had a lot of. in central Maine when I grew up. A neighbor had a hay wagon frame break. He went out in his woods and fell an American Elm and a yellow birch. And took them to a local mill and had iirc 8"× 12" beams sawn and hemlock and Tamarack planks sawn for the decking. . We would stack 180 rectangle bales on it and head to the barn. It was as solid as a rock!
+7* and spruce keeping it warm inside @ 72*. Hockey has been over for 2 weeks they wound up 3rd in the state for the season. Someone is upset and is 2 weeks into next season run to the title. He said 3rd was not good enough.
