Everybody put your bun warmers on !! and keep ya buns warm , the old bones will be creakin Come on SPRING
Wow it is Nasty wicked cold outside tonight!!! 10 degrees with 30-50 mph winds. Just loaded up the stove with 4.5 year old white oak so bring it Mother Nature!
The Liberty is loaded with Beech and Sugar Maple and the Pellet Stove is cranking out the heat in the other corner. It's about 4 degrees out with a realfeel low of -23 to -26 tonight. They're saying the chit hits the fan around 10 tomorrow morning.
So, the forecast flipped back to -21 from -17, which had been -21. Confused yet? -34 real feel right now at -7, and should be a real feel of -40 by the time we hit the -21.......if that actually happens. I set the alarm for 4:30, to reload whatever will fit, then I'll be back up around 7-7:30 or so and do it again. I'll probably need to pull some coals though. The DV is running for all it's worth too.
Here goes nothing, tonight's load is in! -2 right now, when it hits the low for tonight the real feel should be -30ish. It's unfortunate that I dozed off with my son while watching Return of the Jedi and the house started to cool(down to 67ish..ouch!) Gonna have to leave her dialed up a little longer before turning her down for the night.
I am so sorry those are the temps we should be having.60s today stove was cold after a quick warm up. Stay safe and don't let the water pipes freeze. Start saving that snow in some barrels. We will be in a drought this year.
Didn't doze off, but didn't realize the house was cooling so much and got down to about the same....67 or so before the night load. Back up to 69 and climbing, so I think I'll head to bed for a few hours.
We're down to 12F right now and headed to 7F by dawn. Steady 30mph wind and the weather guy said we had a gust of 58mph a little while ago. Fired up the little box stove in the back room today. The Baker FPI just can't keep up when it's this cold and windy. Loaded both with oak and locust for the overnight hours. They're talking about -2F for Monday morning. Me thinks the box stove will be running for a few days.
2 degrees here and it seems like the wind has died down. Trying to get the coals burnt down before the house temps start to really drop. Reloaded at 8:30 last night and at 5:30 this morning the house had dropped 3 degrees overnight and I am sitting at 70 inside. Will be reloading with White Oak.
-24c with big wind from the north. Elm in the T5 and house was fine all night. Not much work gonna be done outside today.
-4 here and wind is nasty. Weather channel says real feel is like -21. I don't think I'll be working outside either. Hopefully the wind will calm down for at least some of the day.
Set the alarm for 4:30, but got up at 3:30. Kitchen was 61 and the living room was 64, while outside was -17. Put 6 splits in the stove and sat with it for 5 minutes before closing the air to about 1/4. Reset the alarm for 7:30, woke back up at 6:30, and the house was back up to 64 in the kitchen, and 67 in the living room, with an OT of -20. TONS of coals. Laid a split on and we're almost back to 68. I've got until 9 to get the house warmed and stove set up for a long burn, since we're leaving for a few hours while SIL comes over. Should warm up to about +1 with sunshine today. Nice surprise last night though, was the stove kept the house temp at 72 while the OT got down to almost -5. Inside started slipping at that point.
That's great news Dave ! Sounds like you are starting to get the feel for the stove. I am still surprised you have to get up and reload in the middle of the night with your 30 though.
Well, at 20 below, I'm not surprised at all. When you live in a colander, the heat goes away kinda' quick. The firebox was over half full of big coals (both times), but those just don't have enough heat in these temps to keep the house warm. Just threw on another split to burn the coals down some more before I empty a bunch and reload for the day so my SIL hopefully won't need to.
-18 f here this a.m.. The wind howled here all night but has settled down this morning. We got just a dusting of snow and now the sky is clear. 72 here in the cave. Got a 9 hour burn outa both stoves and have just raked them up and threw in a split to wake them up. Still running Beech and Maple.
