4, snowing, and windy. Got a couple inches of snow on the ground and up to 10" more on the way. Haven't been out to the boiler yet, but the stack is steaming so I know there is more than just coals left in there.
Zap, they keep changing the forecast. Supposed to be 5-8” on Thursday, but I haven’t checked what they are saying this morning yet. I expect we will get hammered at some point. Most likely when they say we will have flurries.
Nothing wrong with Elm other than it’s a bear to split and it’s stringy, but I’ll take it over some others when it comes to heat. Oak should work better with larger splits. I don’t think there is a perfect wood species that doesn’t have its own quirks.
Just checked and there was the weather advisory until 10am Tuesday. Freezing rain! The absolute worst. Rather deal with snow.
You’re absolutely right! I have my furnace in the basement that I run non stop. Stove upstairs is for ambiance as well as fall and spring when the mornings are cold but the day warms up. When it gets to single digits or colder here, I can easily justify a couple burns in the stove to keep that end of house extra toasty and keep the gas furnace from coming on.
Knocked the ash all down to reveal this nice bed of coals to lay some more maple on. Few big noodles pieces of knarly stuff! Ought to burn for a while
I am at 8 below zero and the weather map says parts of North Texas is at 11 below zero. Wow. Never thought Wisconsin would be warmer than Texas!
Ha Ha... It’s a heatwave here! It’s 6 degrees at my house! Woke up to a nice bed of coals from the Elm I was burning last night. Tossed a couple more elm splits on this morning and WHOOSH! 71 in the house and climbing quickly.
We are around 20*. Light snow. Winter storm warning till tomorrow night. 7 - 14" for western NY. That covers a lot of territory. We will see what we get.
First post... Hi all! Supposed to be the last day of the deep freeze here. Outside it's -2 with windchills down around -25 to -35. Keeping it around 70 in the living room burning mixed hardwood mill ends in our PE Neo 1.6. Mostly red oak, with some black walnut and white oak mixed in.
