Can it even snow at that temp? Been mid 30's & sunny here, absolutely beautiful! Shoveled ash outta the boiler & moved another 1/2 cord of dry Oak under cover. Got the equipment put away & tucked in. Ready as I can be for the vortex. Ash in the boiler from this morning.
35f here. The bottom falls out after the snow tomorrow, with winds and lows into the the teens below zero by Sunday, and highs below zero or low single digits well into next week from what I am hearing. This weekend will be a good test for the new stove. I have been burning in it 24/7 since 01/05 and it has kept our furnace off. I am excited to push it a little harder this weekend in the cold to learn more about what it can really do. I will be feeding it some of my 3-4 year old sugar maple and birch mix.
It's 23.2 tonight with Accu is calling for a low of 19. The Liberty has a bunch of ash in it which I'll cleanout tomorrow so tonight we'll use the pellet stove.
18F & clear, nice night. Oak & Ash mix in the boiler, just waiting for the snow & cold. Pretty well buttoned down here. Oh yeah, just fyi, didn't have to race to the store for bread & milk either.
All skin needs to be covered, kind of look like a ninja for hood, just way thicker. The heat escaping keep eyes from having issues, but lashes build ice really quick. Once it gets to -60 I try not go outside, the temp is hard on everything, easy for things just to start snowballing into issues that become deadly. At -20 a cup of coffee thrown up in the air will vaporizer and not touch the ground.
Sounds like you are chilly! We have had a real mild winter in the BC Rockies this year so far. Lots of snow, lakes have been frozen for fishing and rare dips into semi cold weather have occurred but not the winter we were expecting. A bit of a cooling trend is in store for us the next few days apparently down to -25c/-13f but its supposed to be short lived. Im expecting a savings on wood burned this winter although natures payback is time spent snow shoveling and ice chipping.... good for the forest and lakes I guess. Burning Larch at -10c/14f right now.
That’s what I’ve been burning a lot of this season. A few splits and the house got too warm yesterday when it got into the 30s. Today it’ll be up to 39° so I may just run the furnace. Next week it gets cold and I’ll be glad that most of the wood I have left for this winter is red and white oak.
18 on Oak Hill this morning and the gutsy winds are gone more ash in the stoves going into the ravine today to cut some ash
The snow just started here. 31f now heading to 16f by noon with strong NW winds...ushering in the upcoming deep freeze. As they say here about February, "as the days get longer, the cold grows stronger."
