Only 8 here this morning. And it doesn’t appear to be warming much. Large Pine splits in the Wood Gun.
We're at 10 degrees this morning, the pellet stove kept it 70 up here so I turned that off this morning and loaded the liberty up with some ash, cherry, sugar maple and one nice round of ironwood.
28° and 17" of new snow since yesterday afternoon, and it's still snowing.......It's been 25 years or more since I've seen a storm like this one.
I got out of his message, that he leaves, and his boss leaves vm's at work for the next day. At any rate yeah, coming into work every day with a sh!tstorm makes for hectic mornings. It was single digits all night, still is. 6° currently. I saw 4° before going to bed. Like was said before, it's hard to call this cold compared to what Rope sees. Locust, ash, ironwood, and sugar Maple in the stove. I heard the furnace kick on once. I'm fine with that. Circulating the air around the house. This weekend they are saying another decent sized winter storm will hit.
No mention of how much snow we may see this weekend yet. Don't even know the track of it. I don't really care about the snow as long as we don't see temps down in the range that Rope has been reporting.
It’s a balmy 30 degrees here. Practically summer! Gonna take advantage of the heat wave, and take my son on a hike today. Planning out our path over a cup of coffee. 74 in the house. More seasoned Douglas Fir cranking in the Oslo this morning.
I did hear at noon today that we are expecting 1-3 inches. This map shows us in the 3-6 range. Either way nothing too major.
That map has us in the 1-3 inch range, that's ok with me. Usually when spring is just around the corner, we get hit with some good storms that dump that wet heavy chit on us. I'm glad we don't live on the river across the road, if we have an easy winter but Tupper Lake has a ton of snow in the woods, once the melt starts and if we get rain then people whose houses/camps elevation are just above the height of the river, usually get flooded out. The water from Tupper flows down the Raquette River which is out front across the road. Just the assessment on 0.5 of an acre on the water is just over $128,000.00.
Thats alright! Yesterday, I put the plow on the truck and cleaned up the cottage driveways. Built a fire in the garage workshop, shoveled off the decks, watched a cowboy movie and ate a pasty! Warmed right up to 68 (from 28) by the time I left. Had 7 here this morning. I thought for sure with the semi clear skies yesterday afternoon that we'd be below zero, but it clouded up overnight.
Cold night and frosty here in the Poconos under a big dinner plate moon. Highs in the low 20s for the last few days. Down to 16 as per the thermometer in the yard. This weekend we are looking at 10-14” and another 6-10 three days later. Been burning odd short chunks and crotch cuts of red oak and hard maple non stop for 4 days now and inside is really comfortable at 75F. Keep warm good people!
Nice bright moon here too, 16F & dropping. White Oak in the boiler. Truck & tractor inside staying warm for skidding logs tomorrow!
17 out now and 35mph winds - burr! Stove full of Oak - 72 in the living-room. Supposed to get some snow tomorrow.
That's what some are calling for, I'm in the 3-6" range according to that map, but our local channels are all accounting for more lake effect snow (LES) for the Eastern side of Wisconsin on the shore of lake Michigan. Locally they are saying 5-8" for most of southeastern Wisconsin. That LES was what made our snow storm from earlier this week get to the amounts we got. I suspect that the local channels will get the forecast correct for their respective areas, as usual. The national forecasts seem to miss the details that the locals get. We're set at any rate, but I'll run a couple errands tomorrow afternoon. 11° out now, burning ash, and honey locust. That's one of my favorite combos right now. 76° in the stove room. We had the same 6 pt buck in our yard today that was here during gun deer season. My wife is feeding him leftover zucchini and apples. he seems to appreciate that
14F dropping well into the single digits later. Black Locust, Red Oak and Black Cherry pulling the 3rd shift workload.
