Warmed up to 18º. Ash going in the boiler. I think they were saying almost 30 today! Then getting colder again.
23 out 68 in Buncha beech. The ice dam extraction went much easier than I thought. Door jam thawed out. Got my pickup back from the body shop Saturday. Been in there since early November. Ended up calling them to "push" to get it done cuz my backup vehicle was starting to give me fits. Truck has run fine,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, wouldn't start yesterday!!!
Same here Gas, 14 this a.m. and supposed to snow lightly all day. Down to -18 tonight. Both stoves just purrin along this a.m. on a mixed diet. Lookin like cold will be hanging in thru the end of the month. Ain't winter grand?
9 degrees now, dropping to -4 in Milwaukee, so it'll get colder here than 4 below in the northern burbs. Burning elm branches, no splitting necessary.
Was supposed to snow a total of about 4 hours during the day today, 4 cm accumulation, 17 MPH wind supposed to come in in early afternoon, with wind chills of -11. It was dead calm all day, and snowed from sunrise to sunset. Now, midnight, suddenly the wind is roaring. Maybe the snow will stop now. It is supposed to snow every day this week except Thurs. I have gone in 5 days from 1 plow all winter to 4. The snowbanks are getting high. Finally looks like winter out there, which is nice. If we are going to have the bitter cold we have had, we at least deserve a bit of snow with it. That said, I hope the temps moderate a bit, and we have a period of below freezing temps that still permit comfortable work in the woods, before the snow melts and the ticks become a problem again.
Pretty much the same up here too. Just alittle colder with more snow. Have a load of red oak logs to process that I was planning to do this month, but since retiring the end of last month I am busier than when I worked. That plus a foot and a half of snow puts the log pile alittle farther down the list. Like you, I'm waiting for a break in the weather to have at it.
Had -14 last night, warmed up to -8 right now. Looks like that'll take care of -0 for a few days....according to foercasters....they wouldn't be wrong, would they?
Yesterday's high was 18 with about 1.5 more snow in the morning & full sunshine in afternoon.Actually quite nice I was outside the entire afternoon, made a difference with no wind blowing for a change. At 1030PM it was 3 above & 78 in here thanks to more of that old dead red/white oak. Loaded up with 1 large Mulberry round & 1 each smaller White Oak & Shagbark. Woke up around 515 to 1 small chunk & handful of coals & it was still 73 in here & minus 7 with minus 18 windchill outside. Will drop a couple more degrees by sunrise. Mid 20's today,39 (!) tomorrow & low-mid 30's with no snow for the weekend.About damm time...lol
3 out 76 in I think 3' of snow on the roof is equal to R-52. My wood consumption has been dropping the last week especially for the temps we've had.
Forecast was -7 last night....woke to -10 at 6:40. Let me correct that. The forecast changed sometime yesterday afternoon from -7 to -4. At 8, we were at -12.....whoa, wrong way, wrong way. Anyway, with the DV running on low all night, the house was 67 this a.m. Another load of small Oak splits on top of a quite large bed of coals and we're back up to 73 in the living room. Kitchen's about 70-71. My plan to work in the shop for a bit will have to wait for early afternoon. Turning on the furnace would be silly when it's this cold.
almost 40ºF yesterday. Had some good snow and ice melt. 32ºF tops for today with snow skidding by to the north of me all night last night . Might even see a little today maybe. Back to below 0ºF tonight. Sunny and cold tomorrow and then 4 glorious days of snow in a row. Yippee !! not
Just checked the forecast: cold snap, below 0 F, sometimes significantly below, every night for two weeks. Don't hit the twenties as daytime highs again until Feb 20th --always assuming the forecasters are even remotely correct.
I've gone so far as to print out the monthly forecast, then check online again every couple days to compare. Sometimes changes a little, sometimes, quite a bit. This month was forecast to be warmer, and now it's not. I don't know why I keep looking.
Getting into the shed deep enough that I've come across "Chinkapin" oak and mixing it with Ash. I had never heard of that species, but that's what the guy logging the place told me it was, it burns fantastic! Oak and Hickory has always been a rare score for me, I'm sure glad to have it. 11 degrees this morning and a little over an inch of snow fell last night.
Temp was 13F this morning. Lately I've been burning a mixture of whatever I grab from the stacks. Ash, walnut, cherry and even a little boxelder. Loaded the stove at 9:30 last night, reloaded it at 10:00 today, when the stove room temp got down to 72.
Tonight we're sitting at -20, in the wood stove we have a load of yellow birch an the pellet stove is burning away in the other corner. The temp in the basement is 78, the living room is 70 and the sleeper should be around 66.
