They make cheaper z-wave or Nexia modules that hook up to your home network that you can monitor remotely.

Heat wave here, it's in the mid 30's and has been snowing to beat the band. Driveway is clear and now it is trying to turn to drizzle. Supposed to be a little mild until tomorow night and then back to single digits. Going to take out a few ashes soon and get the stove ready for the evening dance.

9 F here. waiting for the predicted 12-18 inches of snow. Should be dry stuff at that temp. pellet stove is holding the house better than it did last year. I have the furnace set at 65, but I haven't heard it come on. The wife is cooking goodies for Christmas so that may have some influence.

Back at 0° this morning. Snow is coming down good. Hard to tell how much we got last night. Wind is blowing it around so much. Windier than I thought it would be. The boiler is doing well. I went through an entire chamber full of Ash from 10pm to 7am. About three inches of red hot coals left that needed an adjustment, and then more wood and it was off to the races again.

It's 7.3 here in the woods, the first load of Cherry was started from some nice Cherry coals from last night.

Been burning silver maple, in the 20s now but will be down to 7-8 tonight again. I have about 2/3 cord silver maple still on the porch so I'm gonna burn that until it's gone. Loaded up the Princess last night and got a solid 10 hours out of it with plenty of coals for the reload. Also even though I don't like it I have the furnace as a backup, but soon when I'm done insulating the stoves will be the only heat.

After plowing my guess would be between 6-8 of dry fluffy snow, not the wet stuff they called for.

They still have the warning up until 4, we won't get much more snow from what I see.

The temps at 15.4, still burning Cherry. We were thinking about taking the sleds for a ride but we still have spots on the trail that need more snow.

It is -4 on the back porch right now. The boiler is humming along nicely. Ash and a little Cherry. A full chamber last night at 8:30 lasted until 5:30 this morning with some red coals left to start it up again. It's a beautiful thing to not have to get up in the middle of the night, even when it is cold.

Isn't nice to not have to pay out all that money to a company? To not have to depend on fuel from someone else. I don't even want to think about the oil I would be going through right now with the temps we have had over the last four days here. If I was not burning wood. It has been around -5 - 5 each night. Instead, I am burning none. :fire:

Watching the forecast is like playing russian roulette around here.
2 days ago, it was to be 5 last night, got up yesterday and it had changed to -1°.
I thought to my self that I'd turn on the laundry room heater, which I did before bed. However, the temp was hovering at 15, so I was hesitating. It finally dropped to 10 at about 11 pm.
Sooooo, got up this morning and outside was -13°.
These are the times it's nice to have a backup, because the load I put in the stove had burned more than usual (still had coals to relight, though), and the house was still almost 67.
    Accuweather........hmmm.

It was -6 this morning with a windchill of -26. Last night I loaded up some beech in the wood stove, went over to the pellet stove to set it on maual, the basement was 81 this morning, the livingroom on the main floor 71 and the bedroom was 69.5.

We'll be running both again tonight, our answer to a BK.

I better cut my butt off next spring if this weather continues.

It's been one of the coldest Dec I can remember here in Wis. Lake Wissota froze over Thanksgiving weekend, the earliest I've seen in a long time. -14 last night when I went to bed after filling the Keystone with a full load of Oak. Looks like a little snow on the way so it might hit 20 today and give me a break. I've been running the stove pretty hard with 3 full loads of Oak 3 times per day at a setting around #1 to keep my 1200 sq ft in the mid 70's.
