Ya. -10 here as well. Computer says the "real feel" is -25 with the breeze. Although the breeze has slowed to almost nothing at the moment. The Ash and Maple made it through the night for 7 hours. The boiler has Pine cord wood and wood pellets burning in it right now. I will be home off and on today so I will burn Pine and Pellets. There were times last night when the wind was blowing the trees all around and I thought about how glad I was to be in a warm bed and seeing it through the window! LOL
4º here when I got up, I'm about 1 hour into a stove of locust and hickory. Stove at 550 and cat at 1600.....house is 72 upstairs..... everything outside is cold and crunchy.
We had a low of -19.7 on the Radio Shack Special, I'm not sure what the wind chill is. We ran both the Pellet Stove and the Wood Stove last night, this morning the basement was 80, the living room 69 and the sleeper was 67.
Woke up to 5°F w/c around minus 10°F House hung around 63, and loaded with pin oak. Still blowing outside.
11° F this morning, winds NW 25 knots, gusts to 35 knots, wind chill well below zero. Mixed oak upstairs and temps in the mid 60s before reload. Coal downstairs and temps around 70. Have not reloaded the coal stove yet. KaptJaq
4 at 6:30 am Didn't even look at inside temp,,, it was toasty. Same oak ,beech and coal loads. Should be out of the oak stash in a couple weeks and then straight up 6-7 year seasoned beech.
It's -5 here in the pines, the wood stove has a load of yellow birch going and the pellet stove is cranking out heat in the other corner. The basement is 80, the living room is 70 and the sleeper is 67.
Can you tell me something about your stove? Firebox size, door location, whether secondary or cat, type of construction (steel, cast?). Thanks. Would like to be know.
Yes, I noticed it is supposed to go up to a toasty 11 F by 1 AM, before dropping down into the -' Fs again before morning.
After next weekend we'll start our warm up, we have about three face cord of good wood for February but after that's gone we're looking at four face cord of Cherry and another two face cord of Hemlock left. I keep forgetting about the Ironwood so I better push that in tomorrow, we'll see how the boss likes burning that.
The winds have subsided finally. They lasted almost 24 hrs. Never got above 15°F today. Our temps are expected to be the coldest yet next week. Tomorrow ill be bringing more wood up, to keep on the deck, which ill only pull from during poor weather. Youll really be cooling down next week it looks!
Forecast says we'll be cold through Friday, then the rest of the month will be mid-20s and 30s, with a few pretty cold shots overnight. The temp trend is upward, so wood use should start tapering off just a wee bit. Very curious how much I'll have left this year.
