We still haven't burned anything except spruce and pine. Well, there was one piece of ash got in there.
Had to keep the fire going all day twice at the cottage now. It's been that cold for highs. Threw in a piece of shagbark hickory last night during movie time and man oh man, did that chunk ever have some btu's stored up in it!!! Thought of bogydave right away!
I'd have preferred to burn lower grade stuff too, but it wasn't handy. It was either elm or ash or apple, or ironwood.
rain to the left of me rain to the right here I am stuck in the middle with none. Tonight's formerly forecast precipitous extravaganza has been cancelled maybe tomorrow
Been hanging in the mid 50’s here and damp!! No inside burns yet just a few small outside burns. Even got some splitting and stacking in yesterday! Anyone need some bark?
The bigger pile of splits on the ground is all ash except one or two pieces of cherry, the small pile of splits that is stacked is locust. The big bunch of small rounds that is stacked is all ash that’s got probably two years or so of sitting. It was all small trees from a lot clearing job. That’s the staging area and here is where it ends up before it goes to the stove.
Crap! Weather guessers are calling for accumulations this weekend. Which means to me, I'm going to have to shut down the cottage. Raise the dock/boat lift and disconnect the water. Guess I just can't put it off much longer anyway.
Re lit the boiler yesterday, got into the high 30's overnight & nice low 60's today. Same tonight & tomorrow, then it's supposed to get cool. Got Catalpa & Spruce in the boiler.
I have not lit the OWB yet. Holding off for awhile longer; there have been seasons where it has already been lit (for the winter) at this date.
been beautiful out, but sun still packs a punch. No fires and the IS is still sitting on a pallet in the garage for Woodstock. May be putting it back in for the year if it turns too cold.
Good to hear. I'm heading out your way this weekend, another load of Osage returning with me. Happy belated birthday, bye the way..
This is our forecast. The lake effect rain showers are a real pita. They just pop up & disappear, the temps don't bother me at all. We've got a good size Oak removal for Fri-Sat.
