Corn harvest 10 days ago, dust bowl like...and no foxes in the corn. It was around 80°F that day, standin there for 4hours and waiting. Had some fires goin at some of the nights burnin aspen and pine. Mostly 46°F at night so no fire needed every night.
Beautiful day today. So nice that I came down with fall fever and couldn't go to work. Had some rounds that needed noodled. Did some splitting and moved some knotty, gnarly rounds that will need a splitter. Stacked a cord of oak. It's cool but not enough for a fire. Friday night and Saturday sound promising.
Yep. 48° out now. Fire is going in the insert. I'm watching football and moving all the plants into the garage. We're not supposed to get Friday here, and the cloud cover looks to hold on until 2-3 am, so the low temperature shouldn't get down to frost levels. They are now saying a low of 38 tonight. Good, that's at least 4° higher than what they thought earlier today. I've got enough to do with getting the plants all in after today. I even got a good hour and a half when my buddy stopped by. Plus we were dodging rain showers.
I see some snow on radar around 5:00 this morning. 36 here but it should drop a few more degrees by sunup.
I use the gnarly ones for releasing aggression the old school way! The gnarly bastards still consistently beat me but sure is a good way to break sweat while refining my fluidity of cursing!
Had every window open last night because so warm Was 48ºF outside 6AM this morning. Was 62ºF inside when I closed all the windows. Looks like the rain is going to miss us again.
Frost warning here tonight. Furnace was running when I woke up this morning. Time to fire up the stove tonight.
45 in Camel city tonight, so white oak is burning in the basement. Perfect cutting and splitting weather all weekend.
Woke up to 32f and frost. LP furnace was cooking along.... Grrrrrrrr. THATS IT! Started the stove. A small load to kick off the season. Ran the STT up to 500f and the Cat probe swung way past noon to 2. Does that feel nice or what! Whew. Dialed her back and its been smoothing on for hrs. Bring on the big game.... Or whatever. Happy!
Wife wanted a fire again tonight. It's 43° outside, and not supposed to get quite so chilly overnight tonight. The clouds are to stick around tonight, keeping some of the"warmth" on the ground. Silver maple and ash in the stove and it's 77° in the stove room. The house fan is on now...
43F this am. Really toasty indoors! 76F. Oops I'll take it any day over the forced air LP furnace cycling.
Got the stove and chimney cleaned yesterday and we have a fire going this morning. Nice not to hear the oil furnace running. Popple in the stove.
Burning some cherry and ash. Feels good to have a fire going again; the heat is so much nicer than the central heating.
Spent the morning getting the Fireview ready for the season. I called WS to order a couple new top gaskets and a spare cat and got to talk to Tom. He said to say Hello with a special hi to Backwoods Savage, Dennis AND Judy. It was nice to talk to the boss. He said they’re making the substrate for the cats now, just not the coating. It’s allowed them to keep costs down and the cat was $160. Mine is working well and I just gave it a hot vinegar bath so she’ll be like new, but I’ve been wanting a spare. You never know.
It's 43° out now, ash and elm going on the quadrafire tonight. Tonight won't get anywhere near as cold as it was the last 2 nights. The clouds definitely hello with that aspect.
30F this am. Still toasty indoors! Burning down some coals now. One more little load after that and we may be back in a warm spell.
Not only snow on the radar, but also on the ground!! And once again this morning....on the ground. The last few nights the lows have been at or below freezing. So............
