Yahoooooo loving it. Got down to 34 outside, 62 in the house. Forecast for the week shows it back up into the 70s during the day and expecting some sunshine today while it gets up to the mid 60s. Looking more promising to get out of September without needing to get the fire going. October awaits!
21°F currently, just lit the pellet stove for a couple hours, temps to recover a bit here once the sun gets past the mountains.
well, I caved last night and we had a nice little fire in the Oslo. Cherry and walnut. First time burning walnut, it did the job.
dont know what is going on with the weather, but its been so hot over here.its a lovely day here again.
House has been cold for days, so I fixed that tonight. At this time of year the sun never heats my house. The house across the street which is in full sun may be using ac while I’m burning wood. The basement stove is burning the knock the damm chill out of this house mix. White, Red Oak, Red Maple, Blackgum. My daughter is super pumped about fire season, she can’t wait until it’s time for the next stove visit.
Where in CT are you, Litchfield county? It was 40 this morning in Bristol which felt pretty frigid after coming off a summer like this years...
Got 10 degrees colder than forecast last night. Lost some hot peppers in the garden. I would have covered them if the forecast was for 35 instead of 45F. Always something. 62ºF in the house this morning so turned on the heat. Didn't feel like waiting for solar gain to do its thing. Not really cold enough to burn some pine, plus I don't have any nearby ready to go yet. damm deer jumped a fence and ate all my experimental 75 day Winter squash I started August 1. . They weren't all going to make it to ripe at 75 days but a couple looked like they were going to. Were. Pushed their snouts thru fence I had over hostas and ate the leaves. They must have really long tongues.
Ouch. Sometimes you get lucky and the peppers perk back up as the sun warms them, sometimes not. I'm lucky I haven't had a deer problem this year, only chipmunks, squirrels and a black bear coming through twice.
Just to the south of it, but knocking on Litchfield County's door! Over here in downtown Bethel. I will say though, that really is my favorite area to go riding through.
Agreed, route 7 from there heading north is gorgeous. I like to head all the way up to Limerock, Canaan, etc. A great place to be any time of year.
Oh I've got the pesky chipmunks as well. They left me dozens and dozens and dozens of empty husk tomato husks. They don't even run when they see me although they also like to play hide and seek and make this high pitched laughing at you sound. At this point I'm not sure which I dislike more.
Got to 40 last night. Burned some really old oak n some cedar. Smells great. Got the garage stove swept blowers cleaned out and rewired. Garage was toasty at least 75. Loaded up the rack.
40 degrees this morning. Had the stove going with one or 2 fires a day to warm the bones of the house. Got a mix of maple, poplar and birch in the lineup. Today's plans are to finish filling the indoor wood bin, about a cords worth.
