This morning it was in the high 50s- low 60s, bone dry air with a steady breeze. Felt just like fall. Though I've got a few more outdoor projects to wrap up, I'm looking forward to lighting up my stove again.
Winter is acoming. This morning in the high 40's ( no fire yet ). No nude legs--pile pants is ready to cover up. Oh woe.
I was up in the White Mountains this past weekend, and it got into the 50's in Gorham NH while I was camped out. I hadn't had a sleep like that in months. I was in my light sleeping bag and loved that I had to finally zip it all the way up to stay warm. Did a last minute camping trip to climb Mt Washington. I need to move there.
Can't move to Mt. Washington unless you want to work for the A.M.C. If you liked the walk up the mountain, the Mt Washington Observatory runs winter ed trips now to the observatory by snow cat. When we were running Winter Programs (Snow Shelter) for the AMC, the Observatory asked us for volunteers to hike up for a trial stay one late December . Fun , kind of like being in a sub. The weather guys and women are some dedicated scientists doing studies and readings 24/7. They're often stuck there for days. Fortunately for us the weather was reasonable for winter on the mountain that weekend both hiking up and down. High winds as usual but no serious snowfall. Nice to hear about hiking the Whites.
I live 13 miles from the summit of Mt. Washington (as the crow flies). It's horrible up here, you would hate it .
Right on Sarge. You are awarded another stripe. Keep those southerners away. The summit has winds that will blow you off the top. The snow and cold in all months is so bad that it will freeze your private parts. Do not come. You may die.
We are finally getting some nice rain. It has been a couple of months since we had a nice steady rain that has lasted more than 10-15 minutes. Cool next week so should be good for working in the woods.
Dead serious drought here with no real way to fight rural forest fires. Rain tomorrow may help. I'm carrying a small boat fire extinguisher when cutting in the woods now.
By the forecast for the next week I can tell Fall is around the corner. Time to close the pool in the next 2 weeks. Guess I better jump in a few more times for good measure.
26 days in Aug above 90* First rain yesterday after 62 days. Enough to wet the sidewalk. Clear creek that feeds our ag ditch was running 74CFS and normal levels are 175CFS. Drawing water out of the reservoirs above timber line. Our ditch will have intermittent shut downs the rest of the season. ....but, the rain cleared the smoke...a little. 57* this morning. Slept w/the windows open for the first time in a couple of weeks. ...so, not burning yet.
51 and pouring rain. If this was mid to late May, I'd probably have a fire going. Right now, I have the windows open.
1030 here with just a tease of drops. We're waiting for what's west of us. She ordered a "small" fire this morning. We need a long, hard rain badly.
65f this morning, 77f now. Still need rain as they say we are over 10.5" down for the year. Been watering the lawn just to keep it brown. All but given up on green for the year.
It didn’t get much warmer than 53f yesterday and today it was the same with a strong northerly breeze. Gave in earlier on and lit the fire. One can always tell when it’s the first fire of the season because of that distinctive smell; assuming it’s any dust that’s accumulated burning away.
