It’s around 50° so I’m just burning a small fire of pine and maple just to knock the chill off

11 and dropping. Large Beech and Maple splits for the overnight fire.

Yeah I grew up with it and it’s become more pungent. Whilst I can understand that some stoves and fireplaces smell what is that downdraft that can really be kinda stinky in those periods where we don’t have a fire, it’s more tolerable than burnt oil.

That’s exactly how I’d describe it. The heat can be off but you can stand under a vent and still whiff it.

15 and 74, upper 30’s and sunny today  great weather for the last day of January. Waiting to shovel a little ash before the reload of mostly beech. This ends one of the warmest Januarys on record in Maine. Here’s hoping that February is even warmer. Just as long as we don’t pay for it later lol.

27f right now with some snow falling now. We are in the longest stretch of stable winter weather I can remember. Upper teens to upper 20s at night, upper 20s to mid 30s and cloudy during the days over the last 10 days or so. Nothing but small snows. It is pretty nice in terms of saving on heating, and with the stable barometer the fishing has been good. I don't mind cold weather at all, but I have to admit I could get used to this.

0 outside right now. Pine for the next few hours, then back to hardwood for the longer daytime heating haul.

Another night of bone chilling temps here. It dropped down to 17f overnight! Sheesh, I wonder why I packed my shorts away last fall. :picard:

A little, stress the little, light snow this morning. Nothing to be concerned about though.

Sitting at 27f now with a clear night and moon shining.

Man, that insulation we had added last summer is helping as the blower motor on the furnace hasn't run but two or three times during the evening tonight!

    Quiet house here.

31° here, a dusting fell overnight. Mild temps right though the 10-day forecast. I'm burning white birch and skinny beech rounds. Trying to use them up so I can stack sugar maple in their place.

28f here this morning. Probably hit the driveway with the ice scrapper over the next two days as we will have mild temps.

It's gonna be in the mid 30's all all day. Since I'll be around all day, I'll burn up some of the lightweight stuff and some slightly punky Ash.
