Was 14ºF two hours ago, 18ºF now.
Burned a load of pine, just put red maple in.
With the bright sun, providing some solar gain on the south side of the house and the wood stove warming the north side, it will probably be on its way to 30ºF outside and too warm in here by noon again, just like yesterday. Last load around 11Am and hope there's a few coals to get some pine going around 4PM or so. Slave to the stove. But not hearing the oil boiler running is alright.

45 out, big locust split and some apple in the Lopi insert. I can tell the wood is sub-par as a bent gutter literally poured water over it and been trying to dry it out for some time. Almost been 3 years. House is nice and comfortable though having turned off the oil furnace to its lowest setting. Still feel air drafts but it’s less chilling.

Yes, it warmed up here but that wind surely made it cold. Took tractor down the road for a ways and was glad when I got back! I was so glad to be back, I then moved more wood to the porch.

Warm over there- 22 again this morning
Crazy thing is my daffodils are about 6” out of the ground and one bulb bloomed the other day along with one of the azaleas from the 70’s we had through the beginning of January.

It is a wood fired Gasification Boiler. The brand is a Wood Gun, which is made in Pennsylvania by Alternate Heating Systems. Stainless Steel vessel, heats house, garage, and domestic hot water for showers, dishes, clothes, etc.

The large, insulated tank you see on the right side is a 400 gallon buffer tank. Kind of like a heat battery for the house.

I still have my Pacific Energy Super 27 wood stove for back up in case a storm of the century takes out power for a very long time. I do have a generator for back up and it runs my Wood Gun(or oil boiler), well pump, and a couple small things like refrigerator and TV.
