I didn’t get a pic, because it was freezing rain and the roads are bad, but is it a bad sign as you drive by the state snowplow parking lot and you see them chaining up the plow and sand trucks
Ahh, thought maybe snow would follow. It will here. Haven't seen the plows just yet. Stay safe if you absolutely have to be out in it.
The odd time it does go out I need kindling to fire her back up . Couple a pallets and some time . 29c in the house and footy on tv so garden it is .
I have permafrost, it’s supposed to be around 2,000 feet thick. Top few few will thaw in the summer but, it’s easy to find the frozen.
Almost 50 here with rain. Boiler has some beech and pine in it. But it hasn’t run since early this morning.
bout the same here Ralphie Boy . just a c0uple degrees cooler and lots of wind... I've been outside doing a few things in a tee shirt... North and West of us are getting the worst of it. We're on the warm side of the front for a change. The wind has kicked up and is getting brutal in just the last 10 minutes or so here. We're letting the coals burn down and I'll put a couple splits in this evening just to keep the chimney warm for overnight. I almost never let the stove go completely dark.
Just got a weather alert on the tv for our county and surrounding area... High winds this evening and they advise staying indoors on the lower level of your home with probable power outages. Avoid wooded areas due to falling trees and branches... We live in the woods, kinda hard to avoid all that... LOL
*67 outside and *76 inside. I started a 3 split fire this morning. I guess I put to much in. The weather radio just went off. High wind advisory. Winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 60mph.They expect wide spread power outages. Flood advisory. Flooding won't effect me, but my lower field will flood. So much for making much wood for awhile. I did drag 4 logs up to the high ground a week or so ago. Part of the advisory stated "People should avoid being outside in forested areas and around trees and branches." I imagine there are people that are stupid enough that the warning is necessary.
Never go in the woods on a windy day. Mother nature has pruning to do and doesn't care what lands where. Pity those guys that don't have a choice on those days.

62 Boiler was at 142 this morning and almost empty. I pushed the coals back and shoveled the front 1/3 of ash out. Pulled the coals back forward and a couple mostly burnt chunks. House is still hot as blazes now. Likely won’t add any wood tonight and shovel rest of ashes in morning.
We actually got to 60 today for about an hour. It’s still 48 but it’s windy. Greased the Kubota and gave the Fireview a good cleaning while it’s so warm. Sprayed the cat with vinegar and water for the first time and it seems to have made an improvement in how easily it lights. I didn’t think it was dirty since I vacuum it every 2-3 weeks but quite a bit came out of it. I also took the cat screen out for the first time. I usually vacuum the inside of it every time and it was about 50% plugged. I won’t let it go that long again. The stove room dropped to 72 by 6 pm so I started a small top down fire and it’s back up to 78 already. Might be it for tonight We seem to be sitting right on the edge of the ice and rain line so we’ll see what we get when it’s all over by noon tomorrow supposedly. Fingers crossed and prayers said for all my FHC friends in harm’s way.
Got my snow blower back to day. They had it a week to get it repaired. Good thing it was a warranty claim. I am now ready for some snow.
2f right now and the winds (breeze) has pretty much died down to nothing as it usually does during the dark hours, so there is no wind chill to report. Very bright outside with the snow reflecting what light is gained from the moon.
