About 6 years ago we had a similar winter. I recall that we had very, very little snow and January was rather mild as was December. I was scheduled for hip surgery the last day of January and I wondered, "Perhaps we'll get no snow until I'm in the hospital. Then, who will plow the driveway?" So, we got maybe an inch or even less of some light fluffy snow one night. The next day I took my bride out to an open spot in the field and showed her how to use the atv with snow blade. Then I had her clear a good sized spot to make sure she understood how to do it.

Fast forward. Surgery on the last day of January; 16" of snow on February 1. Then February was a mix of cold and a little warm but mostly cold. I remember we had a lot of ice from the warm spell melting snow then freezing. Difficult walking. So one wonders if this year could be a repeat of the same?

Oh, I fully expect at least 1 huge storm here this winter. I just hope that our spring is warmer than last year. Last year winter just held on and our spring was cold. It took a long time for the lakes and everything to warm up last spring. That sucked.

34 here now, got a dusting of snow yesterday, just enough to make the grass white. Mostly gone now. So far a warmer winter which is ok as wood use is down and I can still work outside. Hand split almost a face cord of Ash today - felt good to get outside. Relaxin is the 82 degree stove room now. Stove digesting a full load of 3 year old poplar.

28f on the way to 41f today, mix of silver maple, ash and firewood. Like others, I hope it's not during spring and extends winter another month like last year. No real snow yet this winter, but waiting for payback, we all know it's waiting to strike.

You all seem to know what is in-store for us come late winter into spring. I agree. I have kept detailed journals of my field sports outings, and local phenology since 1989, and they agree also! We'll see, but no reason to think yet that "this time is different."

9 feels like 5, 77 inside on a fresh load of beech, cherry, and oak. Might hit 25 today but the wind is much lower than yesterday. Single digits at night and low 30’s for the next couple days. Looks like a seesaw pattern for the weekend, rain and 50 Saturday then heavy snow and 30 Sunday. The wood piles are definitely holding up better than last year so far. Another 5-6 weeks and we’ll be through the worst of it. On course to burn a cord less than last year.:dex:

    19f now.

Man did we ever get the wind last evening. Not anything like wildwest type winds but it was unusual for around here. Glad the snowing was over with by then!

Supposed to be a bit windy for the next couple of days. Then a couple more days in the 40's later in the week before turning a bit cooler again.

We are once again blessed with some sunshine today! Hooray!

Sunny here today/ Plow finally came by and yes, shoveled the driveway and sidewalk once more from the plow wash.....:zip:

Breezy here but with the sun, its still enjoyable to be outside. Heard a blue jay squawking about something too! Good sign, no?

20 this morning. Beech and Ash in the wood heating appliance.

I am missing the high 60s we had in Myrtle Beach area last week. Walking across the snow covered ground just isn’t the same as walking the beach in those temperatures.

I use just a little bit and massage it in well on bruising, arthritic pain, sore joints and muscles, and I find it even helps reduce nerve pain. I’ve put it on broken skin many times, but not an open wound.
I hope it helps you like it helps us!
