16 outside. Boiler has a deep bed of coals with 3 huge BL splits put on top this AM. Should be good for another 24 hours.

28F. Going to be nice for a few days. 40's for highs. Nice. One pine split sitting on top of a pile of coals pulled up front. Air set to wide open. House is at 71F and will stay there for the hour this split burns down. Starting to make this a morning ritual to eliminate coals. Nice to see some flame for awhile as well.

It got down to 11*F overnight here. I had the stove cranking on a mix of Ash and Honey Locust. The heating room in the basement was toasty and the furnace blower was pushing it through the whole house. Was a little cool in the house this morning but I raked coals and loaded up with the same again and the house is toasty. It's supposed to be a bit of a heat wave here over the next week so I'll be able to back off quite a bit. I had just loaded one of the racks in the basement yesterday. Mostly Ash in that rack now. The second rack has more of a mix in it with Locust mixed in. I try to keep 10 to 30 days worth of wood in the basement racks all heating season. I'd rather spend a couple hours loading the racks than going out for wood every day. Going down to load the stove is no hassle that way even in the middle of the night.

It started warming up yesterday and did not get very cold overnight. In fact, I did not put much wood in the stove and let it go out during the night. A bit cool in here this morning but we have the stove cooking. Also getting warmer outdoors and they say we get to mid 30's today. Then it is 40's for several days including Christmas day. No snow machining going on around this place. No ice fishing either. I don't mind.

Wife burned the coals down today with some pine while I was up in the great Live Free or Die state for work. Sugar maple overnight here, single digits in the forecast. starting to feel like winter! Until tomorrow I guess. Got a stretch of 30s coming up.

17f this morning, heading up t0 40f, and 45f tomorrow, then 30s all next week for daytime highs. It is going to below freezing every night during this warm snap so we won't lose any ice, but sure wont be making any either for awhile the way the long range forecast is looking out to New Years day. The cold air is stuck NW of here right now.

Now is when the woodpile really pays off! I'll bet the nails are "popping" also!

9* at the ranch this AM. Had to leave early for work, so Mrs. MT man should have last nights coals introduced to some fresh fuel by now.

8 here this morning, 75 inside, just shovel some ash and put a half load of mixed hardwood in. Supposed to be about 30 today but then above freezing through New Year with a couple 40’s sprinkled in. Nice ending to the year weather wise. December will end up warmer than average, just the opposite of November thankfully. Here’s hoping it stays mild well into 2020.

10 day forecast not bad. 10* currently. Mid 30s for high today and in the 40s for two days. Then mid to upper 30's the rest of the time. Happy solstice everybody.
