We are only at 35" for the season! Waaayyy, behind schedule! We had more than that by Thanksgiving last year! But it's been roller coaster temps bringing with it rain, sleet, & snow.

We'll take it because there's more wood in the bank!

Nice today. Tomorrow - not so much.
Burning red maple and some crappy spruce from a yard tree with lots of knots, so the splits are on the large size - probably more appropriate for a larger stove. It needs to get used.

Nope. As far as I know, no records. This is pretty much what we do here. :(

Heading down to 0° tonight with heavy winds and a wind chill down to 30 below possible. This will be our coolest weather yet this year. Will likely load up some of that black locust Midwinter so graciously gave us at our g2g! Will likely reloade with the same in the morning since we'll only have a high of 7°F tomorrow. Bring it!

The chickens will likely get some warm oatmeal tomorrow morning. Frozen eggs here on out!

Suppose to be single digits tonight, with high of 30 tomorrow. With wind chill making it feel like 0 during the day. Have locust ready to go. I'll probably get up to tend the fire once tonight. I sleep like a vampire, so I won't mind.

Finally getting a bit chilly here in southern New England- supposed to go down to 10F tonight. Going to stay cold (depending on your view of 'cold') for the next three days. Time to take the stove out of first, kick a little bit more draft to it and load it later in the evening for that overnight burn. First time this year, so far one stove- load of wood has carried the house for an entire day (24 hrs.). Been a very mild fall until now.

Lots more where that came from, the limiting factor is the drive!
The wind is already rattling outside here.

I should have plenty to get me through! I'll only use it when I see -15 or worse! Winds just starting here! After dinner I'll batten down the hatches!

Over here in Southwest CT. Temps are falling and look to bottom out at 10/11F just before sunrise, and projected not to get out of the 20s during the day tomorrow. Going to load the stove up with whatever hardwood I've got and once it's going let it cruise at the lowest setting. Tomorrow's projected to be cold but with full sun. With the curtains open and the stove on low I should still be in the upper 60's or low 70's throughout the day.
It's 25 outside at the moment and 70 inside on a half charge of wood.
    These stoves are amazing.

This is the first time I've ever seen a warning like this! It's for new York city. Called a snow squall warning! o_O

    Really??

They must think we're made of sugar!

Ok, driving, get an alert, "SNOW SQUALL WARNING" AAAAHHHH! Boom, head on collision from looking at your phone!

They say the reason for the alert is due to snow & wind while your driving. :picard:

    What's next?

Funny you mention that! We just got one this evening while watching tv. Looked outside and sure enough, snowing like crazy and about 2” on the steps in less than 30 minutes. I’m surprised you’re not getting them too.

Yup, been snow squalls all day for 24 hours, no warning other than the wind chill.

Headed for 8 with a light breeze. Put enough hedge in the boiler to send it into low earth orbit and set the circ pump on high. Probably overkill, but so what.
